What would do? Change everything. Leave it alone? Myself:

1)Eliminate broad based welfare. Anyone who able to walk and talk can find a job. It will also stop rewarding stupidity and ignorance.

2)Downsize the Government, and make it so politicians only get 8 years in Government.

3)Make the tax code one page, and make it a flat 30% of earnings.

4)Stop funding countries because of political interests.

5)Eliminate all forms of reigious reference in any governmental institution; there are other people who follow faiths other than Christianity. I think some forget the reason why this country was settled was because Puritans were being oppressed by the Church Of England, i.e. THE GOVERNMENT. Only by clearly dividing Church and State can we truely be free.

Yeah, can you tell im a Libertarian?

I can tell you're American...the USA has a long history of lowering taxes (o my god, Bush sr. raised taxes by 0,3%, let's kick him out of the oval office) and downsizing government impact. I don't judge it (!!) I'm just saying they do.

In Germany, the Chancellor raised taxes with 7% (or more?) in the 90ies and they elected him again...

A flat tax of 30%?

If i'm not mistaken, that would only benefit the rich (i.e. highest 2 tax brackets) and would hurt the middle, and totally destroy the people in the lowest 2 tax brackets.

and don't libertarians oppose the income tax entirely?

Yes, but there has to be a comprimise. ;)

I agree there!

Atleast learn your history before you become President.

Many of the British North American colonies that eventually formed the United States of America were settled in the seventeenth century by men and women, who, in the face of European persecution, refused to compromise passionately held religious convictions and fled Europe. The New England colonies, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland were conceived and established "as plantations of religion." Some settlers who arrived in these areas came for secular motives--"to catch fish" as one New Englander put it--but the great majority left Europe to worship God in the way they believed to be correct.

The long term results of Puritanism are felt throughout our country because they were amongst our first settlers and spread their ideas and values throughout the land. The Puritan work ethic became a staple of American idealism. Likewise this nation remains a Protestant country with a legacy of conservatism. The Puritans may have lasted only a little over a century but their ideals remain.

They weren't coming over here to be secularists. ;)

You know why the motto "In God We Trust" is printed on US currency?

Because that's the one true God that people go to the United States to worship.

At least learn your history before you become President.

No. Since I WOULD be President, and therefore a politician, I can blame my ignorance on someone else. :p

simply not true, otherwise the thousands of people who are actively searching for a job for a long time already would all have one...
2)Downsize the Government, and make it so politicians only get 8 years in Government.
good and bad. downsizing, yes, but only 8 years is a stupid rule, since it will force brilliant politicans (if there will ever be one  ) out of the government...
3)Make the tax code one page, and make it a flat 30% of earnings.
easier, yes. the percentage needs to be discussed.

4)Stop funding countries because of political interests.
yep.

no, but to be free.

ryosuke, they came to practice religion their way, freedom of religion is what they came for and that term does not mean free from religion.

being of able body and mind has NOTHING to do with the amount of jobs that are available in an area.
2)Downsize the Government, and make it so politicians only get 8 years in Government.
in certain situations this would be counterproductive.
3)Make the tax code one page, and make it a flat 30% of earnings.
a simple code is a good idea, but a flat tax isn't
4)Stop funding countries because of political interests.
great idea

Umm, any particular reason why? Or do you like having religion shoved down people's throats?

having "In god we trust" and "under god" does not mean "under the christian god". Historically many philosophers used the word god when they referred to nature, or science, or the universe, so even if you are atheist you're covered. America is a place of many faiths, and even if you don't believe in a supernatural god(i.e. Christian god), you do believe in something. so whether you have faith in Jesus, science, Allah, Vishnu, Buddha, whatever, you're covered. There is really no reason to remove these references from historical documents, you don't see god being referenced in the tax code or anything.

How is religion shoved down your throats?

I for one have hardly mentioned scripture from the Bible or anything religious to anyone here. Besides Jehovahs witnesses I don't see what you mean, explain.

    • Yea, but think of the children, if momy and dady really can't find jobs you know how is going to suffer.
    • Bush would be out of the job if the second part of that happend.
  1. Make in only one term for all public office.
  2. Yea, so everyone gets screwed equally? Well, don't you think the poor sould get some kida tax breaks, ya never know next year they can stop being so damn poor and then the can step into the higher tax bracket and get scewed back in to the lower one again.
  3. Freinds help each other. It helps if they should have oil too . . .
  4. Separation of church and skate, damn it I ment state. (NoFX Reference)[/list:eek::bac7d70d4a]

- If religion werent beign rammed down our throats, their would be equal time for all voices at school functions, or people wouldnt be led in prayer before functions.

- "Abstience" education for teens would be only one of several things taught in school.

- Scientifically backed evolution wouldn't have to contend with Creationism, oh I mean Intelligent Design, in a Science class, instead of in a philosophies class or a religious studies class. (BTW, great way to ensure the US stays a world player in scientific advancement.)

- Government would stay out of civil matters like the Terry Schiavo case.

Freedom of religion should also mean freedom FROM religion, if one so chooses!

I'd go around the entire world appologising for acting like a-holes for as long as anybody can remember.

I would concentrate my efforts on educating the public on the responsibilities of proper parenthood and the necessary planning required to have a child. I am 100% for planned parenthood.

I would also repeal all laws that give unfair advantages or disadvantages to people based on gender. For example, women would not be able to get maternity leave because they should quit their career if they want to raise children! There are other obvious ones . . .

I'd also like to emphasize the idea of taking responsibility for your own individual actions. No more stupid lawsuits that costs our country billions! If I could appoint new Supreme Court justices, this idea would reflect my decision.

I would also try to actual RAISE the educational standards for all students in the country. We need to stop lowering the standards just so schools can meet their quotas. It's disguisting how poor our schools are compared to the rest of the developed world. Our culture promotes stupidity and looks down on nerdy intellectuals. HA!
