finally, after months of anticipation, next week i'm arriving in sydney 8). i'll be arriving next friday noon, and i'll be spending anywhere between 2-4 months in sydney with my uncles who lives in bondi.
i've been trying to figure out how i'm going to spend all this time, and i've got a bunch of ideas. i've been told i should check out byron bay, and i also found this thing called http://www.v8race.com/ which i'll probably go to if they'll allow me to use my int'l license. i've also heard that there'll be an MPH show in february, and i'm also planning to go visit Melbourne in january.
there's also some things that i didn't realize until now, for instance that school vacation is in december apparently, and i've heard there's some ozone hole above sydney so i must wear sunglasses and a hat all the time. WTF?
and if any of you guys have any other ideas about stuff i should do\places i should check out\things i need to know about sydney please let me know!

regards,
osabros

Wow, you're arriving in Australia at Noon on Friday, Im leaving Australia at Noon on Friday. Coincidence...

Sure, and make sure you avoid the kangaroos bouncing down the main street of Sydney, they're a menace :p.

lol, nah. It does get hot in summer though, though in Sydney it might not be quite so bad. I do recommend sunscreen if you're going to be spending large amounts of your time outdoors, and it would be a pity if you didn't do some exploring because Australia has a fair bit to offer.

I recommend a trip to Bathurst where you'll get to sample one of the most awesome race circuits in the world (at a pedestrian pace of 60kph). Quite a good car museum there with a few of the great racing cars in Australian history which is worth checking out. Its not that far from Sydney so easy enough to get to.

Enjoy your stay 8)

Enjoy, school's are already starting to wrap up for the year at the moment (it's heading into exam period for people doing their final year of school)

Ps, melbourne is vastly superior to sydeny in every quantifiable way ;)

pfffft!!! Spoken like a true Melburnian :p

Welcome to Sydney, the best city in Australia! Seriously, there's heaps to do, but don't put too much hope in Byron Bay - it's pretty much a large tourist town now. Nice beaches and stuff, but it's been greatly commercialised over the last 10 years or so. Melbourne is definitely worth checkin out ... wait, did I say that out loud?

Melbourne rocks, Sydney sucks. /Thread.

But seriously, yes, there is the ozone hole but it's mainly over Tasmania but still, anywhere in Australia you'd be daft not to wear sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat otherwise you'll fry. Yes, we have school holidays in december/jan, it's our summer (opposite to the northern hemisphere you see)

The Ozone 'Hole' It's not a hole, that's just a silly name for it. Really just a much thinner section of the ozone layer than others.

What is with you Aussies always having these "my city rules, yours sucks" arguments? I've seen these many times on these boards...

You're not an Aussie, you won't understand.

But at least we will all agree on one thing, we don't live in Brisbane

So good...you are emigrating

Im leaving Australia because the love of my life is overseas and I want to be with her more than anything else in this world. Australia is always going to be my home, and I will always have a part of Australia with me no matter where I am.

As our government says, I am an Aussie Ambassador :D

HondaF1 And very good luck to you too - I really hope that it works out in Aberdeen in all ways - sure it will. Go for it

Or so our passports claim ;)

I just got issued one of the new epassports, better than getting the third degree because my old one had 3 nigerian visa's in it.

I actually love as much stamps on them as possible... my old passport was 64 pages and I almost filled it up (US, China, India and AUS visas all take 1 whole page)... my new one feels so empty now because my old passports had a crap load of Malaysian stamps, now that I have the ePassports, I don't get a stamp in Malaysia :(.
