Interesting Quotes...

And that was the price they paid for appeasement.
But did appeasement took place with Iraq?
Did Iraq threatened anyone and needed to be paid off?

Saddam invaded Kuwait and after that you would think he would be ousted. He wasnt. He violated agreements thereafter and we failed to have them enforced or punish him for them. That led to the belief that he was developing WMDs or hiding them. Intelligence from numerous nations backed that theory.

We didnt find any but can you honestly say, based on his actions after the first Gulf War that he had no intention of acquiring WMDs or that he hadnt gotten rid of them before the second war?

No one wants to examine that possibility. Also what if it is found to be that N.Korea doenst have WMDs adn that it was a bluff on the part of Kim Jong Ill. Would Multilateral talks cease then?

Why did he invade kuwait? Coming from a country that in the past few years has invaded two countries, it is very hypocritical.

Liberated, not invaded. We dont oppress the ppl and you can shout "no blood for oil" all you want but you don't having any proof.

Military-industrial complex.

Now, why did Hussein invade Kuwait?

For oil. He also blew up the oil fields on his way out. Hard to compare that to us.

Also where is your proof that we are there for oil.

You are just scratching the surface of why he invaded kuwait...

And I didn't say we are there for oil, I didn't say it because I don't believe that. Sure, if you had to pick between two countries in which both have oppressive dictators yada yada but the one is rich in oil and the other isn't. Well, it's a no-brainer really.

Well you tell me because Im in the dark on this one, why did he invade Kuwait?

War debts from the Iran-Iraq war and slant drilling (kuwait tapped into iraqi oil fields) and they dropped prices and increased production (against what was agreed upon by OPEC). Not to mention that, albeit indirectly, the United States did give Iraq a green light.

So it was a little more complicated. But people simply give the invasion of kuwait as a reason why Iraq is evil, without going into the reasons why he invaded. People also say Saddam gassed his own people....and it's just left at that. There is evidence that might not be the case, and it could have been the Iranians who gassed the kurds. They both were engaged in chemical warfare, and interestingly enough both sides were armed by the United States

Not according to Rice and Powell as you might have noticed... And they should both be in a position to know?

And is it just me but doesn't one of the biggest oil pipe lines run through Afganistan?

Liberation/occupation, really a point of view kind of thing.

They have gas, not oil. Unocal (an American company, which China wants to buy....just a sidenote) had plans to build what was referred to as the "trans-afghan pipeline"...The plans were put to a stop, but then picked up again after afghanistan was liberated

Marcos is gay in San Francisco, black in South Africa, an Asian in Europe, a Chicano in San Ysidro, an anarchist in Spain, a Palestinian in Israel, a Mayan Indian in the streets of San Cristobal, a gang member in Neza, a rocker in the National University, a Jew in Germany, an ombudsman in the Defense Ministry, a communist in the post-Cold War era, an artist without gallery or portfolio.... A pacifist in Bosnia, a housewife alone on Saturday night in any neighborhood in any city in Mexico, a striker in the CTM, a reporter writing filler stories for the back pages, a single woman on the subway at 10 pm, a peasant without land, an unemployed worker... an unhappy student, a dissident amid free market economics, a writer without books or readers, and, of course, a Zapatista in the mountains of southeast Mexico. So Marcos is a human being, any human being, in this world. Marcos is all the exploited, marginalized and oppressed minorities, resisting and saying, 'Enough'!

~ Subcomandante Marcos

Say not, "I have found the truth," but rather, "I have found a truth."

Say not, "I have found the path of the soul." Say rather, "I have met the soul walking upon my path."

For the soul walks upon all paths.

The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.

The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.

~Khalil Gibran

"Jingle All The Way now comes in pill form...easy to swallow tablets that slowly release joy, laughter, and Sinbad into your bloodstream throughout the day"

-Arnold Schwarzenegger

My absolute favorites:
"... the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community against his will is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or to forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because in the opinions of others to do so would be wise or even right."

"He who knows only his own side of the case, knows little of that."

"Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign."

John Stuart Mill
Mill was a genius and his teachings are ever more evident today.
"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"

Samuel Adams
A wonderful, eye-opening quote that all too many forget. Or, perish the thought, have never heard!
"Post-Marxism is the opiate of the intellectual."

Daniel McGee
Intellectuals always think they know how to run things...that if everything were done their way, we'd all be a lot better off. Well, I'm here to tell you that "the good of all" and "for your own good" is a lie. Just read Mill (the very first quote is a good start).

God is dead? No, on the contrary, the poor man who said that is long since dead and buried, while God lives on eternally.

uh yeah because I know it is. If God is dead, then who do you pray to as a muslim?

One, the quote doesn't mean god is dead in the literal sense. Read up on it, I'm surprised I'd get a reaction since it's such a famous quote.

Two, I pray to some higher being out there, I don't know what it is. I wouldn't say I pray to god because then I'd be in the same boat as all the other bigots that pray to god. Not saying that everyone that prays to god is a bigot, but it sure as hell seems that alot of people are using faith in him to justify everything from oppression to murder.

Three, have some respect for other faiths. There are other people that don't worship your god, so that thing you said makes you sound like an evangelist.
