Is it possible to do a wheelie while getting wheelspin on either a car or a bike?

Anything is possible, but I've never seen it.

That reminds me of an interesting fact about Moto GP: When the bikes are going flat out they are getting wheelspin; the wheels are turning 15mph than the bike is moving.

On street tires it won't handle with a car, but I've seen it with slicks at the drag strip.

i dont think so, as a wheelspin is the result of too little traction, and a wheelie is the result of too much traction

im sure its possible but it needs to get enough traction while still slipping which can be hard

Yeah, it's possible, but I bet hard.

maybe on a dragster but probably not motorcycle.

I guess this would be sorta like a 4 wheel burnout with all 4 wheels spinning. It is probably possible but very very hard

i dont think its possible on bikes... you'd probably flip backwards

check out my sig... i did it today!

I've actually been in a car where that happened, we were rolling at about 20mph and the traffic cleared and my cousin dropped the clutch while revving and the car's back wiggled and the car sped off... pretty cool :D

In theory it is possible of course, but would require shitload of horsepower and tires grippy enough to get a wheelie

You apply enough power for your front end to rise, and keep it there, then suddenly rev it to max. If this will be enough to break traction, you'll get your wheel spin for a moment before front end falls down (nothing is holding it there anymore) :)

If you want to balance it that way, it's much harder, but again possible in theory. As patrick10 said you must have grip while burning tires :) And that grip should be enough to lift a car.

There's static friction and motion friction, and second one is much lower, but it's there.

I?ve read a description of something like that in "Fast Bikes" when they were talking about the Hayabusa.
They said it was the first street bike powerfull enough to rise the front while spinning the back wheel. Mind you, the back tire lasts only 2000 miles if you ride it hard.

i was thinking the same thing. But according to other people's posts it seems like it could be possible for a short amount of time. I was just wondering since i saw a dragster on TV doing a wheelie while leaving tire marks behind, so i was thinking that it was getting wheelspin as well.

Exactly. I think it must occur for a short "transition time".

actually from what i heard, in the faf, the charger, or whatever it was, was spining its tires while it was doing a wheelstand and i heard it wasnt staged, it was actually real. but thats just what i heard and in the end its still fast and furious so no one wins

Actually I've seen a caravan doing a wheelie on a snowy day!! The caravan must have hit the curb or something while slipping around on the street, and somehow (like I don't really know how either - don't ask me  ) the front wheels kinda lifted off for a few seconds and ran onto my front lawn. The caravan was a post truck, and it broke my lawn sprinkler!!

It's possible and I've seen it in MotoGP with MCcoy going sideways then pulls the front end up while the rear wheel makes smoke and alot of rubber is left behind.

It's hard but possible.
