Ford to Pump $934 Mln Into Jaguar: Report
Sat Mar 26, 2005 07:31 PM ET

LONDON (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. (F.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is preparing a 500 million pound ($934.6 million) capital injection for the unit's struggling Jaguar division, The Sunday Times newspaper reported, citing a senior Jaguar source.

Earlier this month, Ford said it expected Jaguar, which has struggled to keep pace with larger rivals in the premium car sector, to report flat sales and a loss this year.

Jaguar has said it plans to end assembly operations at a plant in Britain and cut 1,150 workers, or 15 percent, of the money-losing division's workforce.

Ford's Premier Automotive Group (PAG), which includes Volvo, Aston Martin, Land Rover as well as Jaguar, reported a 2004 pre-tax loss of $740 million, a decline from a pre-tax profit of $171 million in 2003.

The decline primarily reflected unfavorable currency exchange and lower volumes at Jaguar.

Ford has projected that PAG will have a 2005 pre-tax profit of $300 million to $600 million.

hell yea... although they are crap IMO they are still one of the classiest cars around, among all the plutocrats's cars, I would love to pull into a hotel with a Jag XJ6... plus they have a great history as well

Sure, so long as taxpayers aren't paying for it.

Jaguar still has a great name, and a great image. If they would quit selling the x-type, and focus on the $50k+ market they could do quite well. Course they're pathetic showing in F1 the last couple of years did nothing good for their image. At least they gave up on that.

I think they should bring back the V12, they have a perfectly good one sitting accross the way at Aston Martin

also...drop the S-type and the x-type...go back to having 2 models, but make 3 versions of each

a V6 XJ sedan
a V8 XJ sedan
a V12XJ sedan

and the same deal for coupe and cabrio versions of the XK

they would cut production costs in half...and probaly boost sales of the XK (there is already a V6 version of the XJ, and from what I hear, its doing very well in europe)

I'm agree with that.
Jaguar should go on racing in LMR series ( Le Mans Racing ) like Audi ( for example ). It should be great for its image.
I think everybody remember the jaguar silk cut in the 90's beginning at Le Mans race.

If the Advanced Lightweight Concept goes into production, I feel it could be a big hit. I love Jaguars and would hate to see them go under. It was bad enough to see the XJS cease production, but all Jaguars would just be dire.

Always worth to keep the few British manuafacturers going. Ive always wanted one of the bit older Jags. Such as this one. Saw a mint condition one for sale couple years ago for 9 000?. Only if I would have had the money.

I wish a German company would buy Jaguar. Then it would be like Aston and Rolls - A well built car with British refinement and history.

Damn, mental lapse, I knew that. What's that other British company that was bought by the Germans?
Land Rover was bought by BMW, and BMW made the new (current) Range Rover.....but then they sold out to ford

Bentley is owned by Volkswagen, Rolls Royce and Mini is owned by BMW, and Lotus works in straight connection with Opel (or Vauxhall; both are GM companies), but since they have some kind of agreement with Toyota, Opel is quiting its cooperation, IIRC.

IIRC???

I say yes, if they were able to make their cars a bit better. Jaguar has always had more class than bmw or mercedes.

Our land lord drives a xj type r. Its sex on wheel, powerfull, but doesn't make u look like a drug dealer.

Personally, I only think it's worth it if they bring Jag back to top level sportscar racing, and do a proper job of it, rather than that half-assed abortive joke of an F1 team.

well... if you are talking about where they started... they are bristish but the are currently owned by Volkswagon and BMW respectively
