This is a "discussion" forum.

You want as much "discussion" on it as possible -- thats what makes a good message board. Not locking down every thread possible.

Don't be a dick.

if you haven't seen one on the road or in a showroom, i can see why you might suspect they share components, but if you have, you would see the huge difference in size, shape, and height. the maybach is HUGE, it basically IS a limousine (american type, stretched) and the shape of everything is different. they might share some engine or other mechanical components but overall, no.

smart is also made by mercedes, but i doubt it shares the same chassis as an S class. maybe the SLR one but still.. :D

Agreed!

No they don't share any componatry however I think it does utilize the same 6.0L bi-turbo in the S600. They increase the displacement, do some magic and its even faster. Other than that, the Maybach isn't just a bigger S-Class.

Isn't it a bit weird to make Merc and Maybach share looks then? If they don't share any components that affect the exterior you'd think they would let Maybash have their very own style. At least it makes perfect sense to me.

But Maybach is Benz owned and Maybach is Benz's uber luxury brand so there has got to be some genetic MB looks.

But wouldn't it be a pity to have a Maybash when everyone's mistaking it for a MB? And haven't Toyota and Lexus got a similar relationship? They don't look anything like each other as far as I can tell...

thats not really true, the LX, is almost exactly like the LandCruiser.

at one point... wasn't the landcruiser exactly the same as the LX?...

and lexus is just a european/american/upmarket brand for toyota

you can do google searches:
Lexus LS = Toyota Celsior
Lexus IS = Toyota Altezza
Lexus ES = Toyota Windom
Lexus SC = Toyota Soarer
Lexus GS = Toyota Aristo
Lexus RX = Toyota Harrier

that was a long time ago .. (last year infact :p)

the new IS, GS, LS is 100% lexus .. (and the SC is no longer sold in japan as the soarer, its now a lexus there too)

^New IS, GS and LS? I'm pretty sure they don't. I can't think of a Toyota deserved enough to sport any of the Lexus chassis's.

Toyotas are just heaps o' metal...most of them anyway!

The issue Toyota/Lexus are quite equally as the issue Honda/Acura. The NSX was sold here as a Acura, not a Honda

Cheers!

yea, here in the US there is a Honda Accord and an Acura TSX and Acura TL. The TL is based off of the Accord and both are around the same size. but overseas there is only the Honda Accord which looks exactly like the Acura TSX.

At least with Lexus/Toyota there is a fundamental difference between the cars of each brand. All Toyotas are FWD (except the trucks), and, IIRC, all Lexuses are RWD except for the RX and ES. I don't see what differentiates an Acura from a Honda asides from the interior and the suspension tuning.

But I have to say that, hands down, Nissan and Infinity do the best job of separating their brands. The G, M and Q are nothing like the Maxima, Sentra, Primera, etc.
