Is this accetable English for a prime minister and EU commissioner?

If he just yelled German angrily instead, he could get anything he wanted! :D
 
I could understand it well enough, but think maybe the problem was that he hadn?t practiced the speech beforehand. Possibly, he is not very good at prepared speeches even in his native language.

He should have had a practice run through with a very good English speaker who would have picked up his mistakes*.

I agree. On the other hand, this is the EU we're talking about, in which basically every country has its own language and traditions.

I admire him in attempting to speak English; at least, in the same way I think it's somewhat shocking the EU foreign minister, an Englishwoman, speaks only English and nothing else.

Good on him for trying I say - a bit of concentration and I got it.

I hate the EU as an organisation - it is so deeply flawed, theft and fraud riddle its institutions and is institutionally anti British; but I admire and respect many Europeans - better educated, more open to ideas and linguists (Except the French of course lol) than us, some of whom are even Politicians in the EU. Nearly all our Politicians suck and have completely lost the plot.

I'm aware of that. But the title bar is too tiny for this long title and I could not review it :p Once I noticed, I couldn't change it, because after the first post the title stays how it was, obviously :rolleyes:

I could understand him....just, and making a really conscious effort to listen. I wouldn't care if someone was trying to communicate with me out on the street like that, but reading an already prepared speech? You'd think a public figure would practice and practice it so they wouldn't look foolish, or, at least, have a simpler speech written for them that they could handle....or just bite the freaking bullet and use a translator! :lol:

EDIT: The one word I did have trouble figuring out what he meant, was supposed to be 'systematically.' I had to watch the video again to pick up what it actually was!

He sounds like the typical parody of a German trying to speak English. :mrgreen:

I've read other Germans' opinion about this in another forum and for whatever reason (I'm not into German politics) most said that they can't even stand him when he speaks German.

That said, he's not worse than the completely useless guy that happens to be the president of Spain and for everyone's disgrace is the president(?) of the EU this year.
