This morning, the next step in comercial aviation was achieved. The Airbus A380 made her maiden flight today.


Congrats to Airbus :thumbsup:. Now we just have to wait and see what happens when Boeing starts production on their 787.
 
It still has to land safely though. Right now they're doing flight tests.
You should have seen the spectacle our broadcasters made out of it. Live coverage and documentaries the whole morning.
 
In 50 years they'll have planes that'll fly your entire hous to where you're going. And at no extra charge if you're an elderly or have enough frequent flyer miles!!! ;)
 
That won't be necessary...

In 50 years, we will be able to travel trough a fiberoptic cable...that means you'll be on the other end of the world in 1 second.

Don't ask me how it works, but it has to do with Zweisteins E=mc?...if you have enough speed, your body will transform to pure energy...
I know, it sounds unbelievably stupid, but one of my professors told me that.
 
I'm a second year physics student, and trust me, all those super-duper things like warp drive, teleportation, wormholes and such are theoretically possible, but they allways require more energy than the sun produced in its entire lifetime, or something close to it.

By the way, do you think the new Airbus will be succesfull?
 
In 100 or 200 years I think Human race living on other planets will happen.
 
i dont see whats the big achievement. yes its bigger, quiter and more "fuel effcient" but i mean all that was needed were some bigger engines...
 
except that it's bigger quieter and more fuel efficiant which was the whole point and pretty tough to pull off all at once... since bigger engines tend to be louder and less fuel efficient

i could care what i go on as long as its 1st class seats tbh. but then again i never go 1st class so balls to me.

That's really not something I can speculate, but we'll have to see what the market does. Many airports are griping because they don't have the capability to support such a large number of passengers (what with already crowded airports and such...).


Though I have a coworker who is already paranoid of those things. He says he won't fly on one because if it goes down, that's 600 some-odd people who are going to die (well, the size of the plane don't matter, if you go down, you go down...).
