The Jaguar C-X75, a cancelled million-pound 850bhp hybrid supercar project, is set to star in the upcoming James Bond film Spectre.

Individuals involved with the project have reported on the ongoing engineering works to the car, which are designed to make it suitable for filming use.

Autocar understands that for production purposes the C-X75 will be fitted with Jaguar's supercharged 5.0-litre V8, instead of using its existing hybrid powertrain.

It is also rumoured that the C-X75 will be driven by the film's villain. Such a role in the 24th Bond film ties in neatly with Jaguar's "Good to be Bad" campaign, which heralded the launch of the new F-type coup? and showcased British actors playing villains.

Jaguar officials would not confirm which cars are involved in the film at this stage but did not directly counter the reports of the C-X75's involvement, instead simply indicating that any official announcements will be made in 2015.

It would not be the first time that Bond's enemies have driven Jaguars; for example, in the 2006 version of Casino Royale, both the XJ8 and XJR make appearances as the automotive antiheroes.

A Jaguar XKR also starred prominently in 2002's Die Another Day, battling Bond's Aston Martin Vanquish.

The hero car of the film, driven by James Bond, will be the recently revealed Aston Martin DB10. Aston Martin itself has been using the hashtag "Good to be Bond" on Twitter, imitating the official Jaguar line and further indicating the brand's involvement with the upcoming film.

I would be interested in seeing what a C-X75 with that engine is like as a production model. it'd need some sort of active aero and forced induction trickery to make it competitive as a supercar but i bet they could make it happen.

Paging @Spectre to the Jaguar thread about Spectre. Or is it the Spectre thread about Jaguar?

I wish they continued on the mini-turbine route. A Jag that can run off a martini.

Sad that the only use they'll get out of it is as a movie car, but they completely flubbed the project. No surprise; I doubt Callum really wanted it to succeed.

Perhaps the movie will generate renewed interest in the car convincing Jaguar to make a couple?

I don't see it myself. There are people out there with enough money to commission one-of projects and if the demand were there then it would have happened already. McLaren and Porsche already have the boxes ticked for someone who wants something with near racecar performance. Don't see Jaguar selling much on the back of Bond if this is what will appear in the movie. More likely to use whichever bad guy in continuation of the "Good to be Bad" series of commercials.

Which I'm betting is more likely to be Andrew Scott than Christoph Waltz.

I wouldn't be too doom and gloom abou the C-X75. The movie might spark enough interest in the market for Jaguar to finish it and produce a limited run of them. Also things may be a little bit different now as the Porsche 918, LaFerrari and McLaren P1 are all sold out.

The test drives of the almost production ready prototypes looked very promising, if only Jaguar did the final calibration:

The only question worth asking concerning the movie and the car ... will it be crashed?

If it is, it will surely be a mockup and not the actual car.
