It's a range extended electric supercar.

In other words, a plug-in series hybrid. It uses a gas micro turbine and electric motors for 778 Horsepower, a top speed of 205 MPH and a range Of 68 miles(whithout using the turbine).

"By making it an innovative test-bed for the technologies of tomorrow, it also ensures that our reputation for engineering excellence will continue for another 75 years and beyond," says Mike O'Driscoll, managing director of Jaguar Cars.

That concept design is very dated. I'll wait for the real concept next month.

Yeah, looks like an updated XJ220 shape. Imagine the gas turbine shriek though.

This doesn't look anything like jaguars current design language...

It's not supposed to.

This is the real concept.

It will be offically unveiled tomorrow morning at the start of the Paris Motorshow. Jaguar sent the press release out with instructions to wait until tomorrow, USA today forgot that and posted it anyway. When they realised their mistake they deleted it.

I had wondered how long it would take someone to go all industrial on us and come up with a turbine powered serial hybrid. Not a bad idea actually. And the car is very XJ220 only chromier. I dont know what I think.

In before Spectre complains about Ian Callum.

(He would have a point with this one, it looks surprised, and a bit silly)

Aside from the wheels I think it looks pretty good.

778HP and only 205MPH?

Depends on what the gearing is. Also, electric motors and batteries are not light.

I sort of like it. It's interesting that Callum has partially reverted to the earlier shapes and design language (which is good - perhaps due to pressure from angry customers and dealers?), but the Callum-signature front air ducts, goofy lights and the squared off side cooling ducts are jarring and don't really fit with the more organic remainder of the shape. The greenhouse needs a bit of tweaking, too - from the front quarter, the top looks like he borrowed it from the Mitsu Eclipse and that's not a good thing.

Still, a step in the right direction. I may not be forced to have mercenaries shoot the man - though I wonder how much of this was pure Callum and how much of it was Tata forcing him to design something more Jaguar-ish that would actually sell.

778HP and only 205MPH?

Thats battery only, using the 2 turbines bring it up to 968bhp.

A few more points:

6 hour charge
Average CO2 emissions of 28g/km.
1180lb ft of torque.
1350kg
0-62mph in 3.4sec
0-100mph in 5.5sec
quarter-mile in 10.3sec

195bhp electric motor per wheel with torque vectoring + two gas turbines provide 94bhp turbines.

It also has thrust vectoring from the turbine exhausts. Kind of like a harrier, or f-22 raptor.

They did get the drive train right. Turbines are much better at powering a battery box than internal combustion engines.

Clearly it works for argatoga.

I'm pretty keen on having a turbine engine in my future car. Was thinking of one with an afterburner though.

I like it.
