The state of California renamed the crossing of Highway 46 & 41, outside Paso Robles, to "James Dean Memorial Junction" this week.

Today, 30. September - it is exactly 50 years ago the legend wrecked his Spyder 500 with a Ford in the crossing on his way to a race. (Chicken race probably?)

Only three hrs earlier he had recieved a speeding ticket.

I can't tell if it's in bad taste or not. Renaming an intersection where you died after you? Maybe they'll put a life size replica of his wrecked car there as well for the tourists.

Naming a highway after someone is a good way to memoralize someone. But a junction? Not even a true stretch of road, just a bit of intersection. Come on California, can't you do better? Or did one of today's stars already buy the rights to the roads so when they die they get named after them?

dean would probably rather have the CHP speeding citation named after him.

the 24 year old left quite a mark after he wrecked the little bastard... -that car done been cursed.

 Holy crap if even half of that is true, that is amazing.

Police concluded the twilight dusk camouflaged the Porsche's color, making it nearly impossible to have seen.
I wonder why people keep insisting that it was speeding that killed him.

Speed doesn't kill. Nobody's ever been hurt from going fast. Suddenly becoming stationary...

The ford sedan that was in his lane going the wrong way has a bit more to do with it than speed. Though your stationary point still rings true.

technically the report has that the ford wasnt going the wrong way, rather making a left hand turn across dean's lane.
