I've never would have thouth that James got a pilot license.

Yeah, he wrote about it in one of his collums that he was taking flying lessons.

bet he just got it for the episode to be able to beat clarkson in such a race. :D

Now, I'm not much of a flight-wiz, but really don't think that you're allowed to fly by yourself, without a license? I mean, aeroplanes are big and can really cause some serious damage.

Really

Does anyone know the type of licence he got? In the clip, he's only flying a small aircraft thingy so he might only be a beginner..

k, James will have at the very least a PPL (JAR-FCL if he's flying in europe)

doubt it will have been just for that episode as the licence costs at the very least ?4500 for the lessons themselves and then there's equipment on top of that

you CAN fly by yourself without a licence, but its only by yourself and it will definately not be international.

he'll've probably had a PPL with various ratings attached to it - Night ratings, instument ratings and some other ratings that I don't know for the life of me.

must be a bargain for the BBC no matter how uniquely it is funded.

You're absolutely right, he's got a PPL licence he wrote about it in his Daily Telegraph colum a while back so he's probably done his hours and tests and stuff but I think he's still got some courses to do.
