I wonder what Clarkson's face would look like at that speed if he sticks his head out of the window. :p

And this wasn't even the full speed this thing is capable of, namely 581km/h.

:woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

I once travelled in France's TGV and I was amazed!
This MagLev is way out there, on a totally different level!
I loved that shot where it passed the people on the parking lot. What a sound!!!

We visited the Transrapid test site with my class back in 2000 as a part of a school project. We "only" did 400 km/h but it was astonishing especially since you couldn't feel bumps or anything similar associated with traditional trains.

And no, there weren't any windows you could open.

^ We never did anything like that when I was in school... They even cancelled the brewery visit in 10th grade just one year before we were supposed to go :-(

That's fucked up. We did visit a brewery in 10th grade and even made wine in 9th grade.

Maybe visiting a Gesamtschule wasn't that bad afterall. Okay, I might not be able to tell you exacly what a Genitiv is nor am I able to solve a power function, but I got drunk with my teachers on several occasions and even smoked a joint with one of them in 13th grade.

I don't know whether to be more surprised at the fact that you have a 13th grade (we end at 12) or that you smoked a joint with a teacher...

I haven't watched the video yet (darn 56k! :x), but has anyone else noticed the "download" button on google video? It even has options to save it for a video iPod or PSP!

When looking at that thing on Wikipedia I get the impression, that the "Japanese Maglev" isn't really Japanese. It appears to be a rebadged, German built and developed, "Transrapid".

Am I right?

I thought traveling at 200mph in a Shinkansen was fast. The sensation of speed is unreal in those. You can't see anything closer than 100 metres out of the window because it is just a solid blur. Even the furthermost scenery is blowing by fast!

It's true that Japan has been working on these superconductor trains for at least a couple of decades. As a child in Japan, I've seen early prototypes and experimental models of it. This was almost 20 years ago.

500km/h is just unbelievable. Maybe I should go ride on it next time I'm in Japan.

Well, I went to a very standard Gymnasium in Bavaria and I culdn't do the things you said either ;-)

Gesamtschule?? All the schools integrated into one building? Never heard of it...
