Japantastic (56K warning)

Out of all the cars you pick that one?

Thats not cooking it, it's just roasting the skin to give it a cripsy texture when eating it.

Yeah you're right. But the fish was probably just broiled or steamed.

I went there when I was in Ginza in January. Swatch owns a bunch of really high end watch brands (Omega, Glashutte, A Lange and sons to name a few). This is their concept store, and it was really cool to see some trickle down from the expensive brands to swatch. Now they sell a $250-ish swatch with an Omega movement.

I thought that might have been the case, but then I thought - Swatch couldn't own those brands, could they? Or was Swatch started by an existing, rich watchmaker? Pretty insane really.

even the parking spaces are interesting. People must shop for cars with an exact size and shape in mind.

Also, owning that house behind the Peugeot on page 1 is my new goal in life.

You have to get your space measured and then you're only allowed to buy a car that will fit into that space. So yeah, they do. :)

The narrow house? Imagine having a house narrower than some cars. They sell plots of land here smaller than most garages back home.

Thanks for all the responses.
I'll try to keep it going.

Is that a movie or TV show reference?
It is somewhat "cottage" inspired.
Not a very useful space in the back though.

I've a couple of GT-R's the last week or two. One was just plain vanilla, the other one had some Mine's stickers and aftermarket exhaust (Mine's?), engine was running, old guy asleep at the wheel.

Not sure. It had titanium tipped exhuasts but I didn't look that closely, might've just been tips or the whole system, stickers and the carbon lip. I think if it were a Mine's car they would have done a better job with the graphics.

The pics don't really show it but this scooter was seriously lowered.
About as gangster as a scooter can get.
It had little landing gear instead of a kick stand.

These are the nationalists, driving slowly, playing old nationalistic tunes over loudspeakers, screaming at people who really just wish they'd piss off. They're the Japanese equivalent of the redneck. They had a police escort for some reason.

And this is a guy selling BBQ chicken kebabs from a cart. The guys who sell food from carts, especially yakitori (chicken on a stick) are the dodgiest guys you'll meet. Usually a smoke hanging out of their mouth, dirty, gnarled fingers, hacking cough and always surly.

And there seems to be a large percentage of restaurant owners who don't realise that having a clean place might attract more customers. Heres an example, this is a spaghetti restaurant. I don't mind dirty(ish) places when they're authentic old school restaurants where the food is more important than the decor (in fact its fashionable for noodle shops to be filthy dives), but this is just not one of them.

That has to be russian, I can't tell the brand though.
I love the sheet of cardboard to absorb the dripping oil.

Supercars all come with a piece of cardboard. :p

The van had an info sheet on it but I forgot the name and I didn't take a close look. The body looks russian but the tyres look American.

How cool is that, a Peugeot 205gti in Japan
I really enjoyed you posts :) it's just so cool to see how the people live there and what kind of vehicles they have.
(And i must say, they have everything there in Japan :D)

I'm looking out for some updates

OK quick update, but not many pretty pictures or nice cars. I went for a ride out to Oifuto (Oi wharf) and it was a horrible container ghost town (on a Saturday it isn't busy). I thought I might see some drifters (or at least evidence of recent activity) but no luck.

Anyway, I'd never seen one of these before.
