Just how big are their paychecks?

This question actually came to me this morning when I was getting dressed. I have no idea what prompted it, I think it was just a random progession of thoughts that ended up on this subject.

I have been watching Brainiac a lot lately (less scientific more careless/wreckless version of Mythbusters) and like it. And I was wondering why they need to do these side jobs. Top Gear is obviously a fairly popular program which can be seen by the caliber of guests they get to come on.

So why the extra projects?

Jeremy Clarkson does his 3450394 odd DVD's a year, Hammond does full seasons of Brainiac on the side, and James May does.... well... I'm not sure what he does.

I mean, we don't see people from Law and Order, CSI or Prisonbreak doing sitcoms on the side.

It got me to thinking that if they didn't have this crap on the side, then they wouldn't be complaining as much about the demands of Top Gear because they could devote all their energy to that instead of these side projects. :p

Does the BBC just pay a flat rate? Do they have a cap? Did they just do a crappy job negotiating their contract?

That is just something that got me wondering. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into it.

Hmm i think there was another topic that covered Clarkson and i think it was somethin about him making well excess of $100,000 and i can only assume the other guys make less. James less than Hammond

$100k? That's it? That's not really that much.

I think celebs just get paid a lot less outside of North America... it's only Hollywood which pays people a million dollars for a day's work.

By the way, where do you get episodes of Brainiac?

I was getting them off some small website, but now someone was kind enough to send them to me (all but season three)

thats because he has a million and 1 DVD's with his name and a Top Gear column + Times column

Clarkson doesn't only do Top Gear and make DVD's, he writes for Sunday Times, the Top Gear magazine, odd columns here and there, and he does guest appearances on other BBC TV shows, such as Top of the Pops, QI and Have I Got News For You.... Which was great this year by the way

Hammond has done some extra stuff too, such as the mentioned Braniac thing, as well as that series, Should I Worry About..., the Top Gear DVD was also hosted by him (Revved Up) and not Jezza... Ooooh! Ooooh! And he opens garages and shopping malls and such for extra cash

James May also writes for the Top Gear mag as a side thing (I guess) as well as another paper which I forgot... Could be the Christian Motorist's Weekly (har har har, not funny is it? )

So they should make quite a bit of money, I mean May just got a Porsche Boxter S, Jezza, a Merc and Ford GT, Hammond... well he drives old Land Rovers, so he needs the extra cash (oh, and he has that horrid looking Porsche with a Turbo badge stuck on it :? ).

hammond has a charger, morgan and a landrover .( or did he sell the charger)

i heard clarkson makes in total 1,000,000 british pounds a year

Well quite frankly I'd rather see them spending money on the filming than the paychecks... (races acros europe, having the army there, aeroplane things etc. etc.) they ain't cheap!

I seriously couldn't give a damn to know how much they make, why is it even interesting.

Here in Norway, there is a public website which lets you enter any name (first and surname), to recieve all the info on income, fortune and taxes.

Frankly, I think it's despicalble. Jelous people wanting to know if they make more money than their neighbours ... :yucky:
