Just posting this thread to say Hi and to thank Viper and VUK for a great site, great quality top gear videos!

Posted a few times here now, gonna try and post more often, seems like a nice place!

Welcome to you! I see you're a Saab fan! I really like my uncle's 9-3 8)

Yup, my dad drives the old model 93, a 2.2 turbo diesel. I'm a poor student so I share a 1.1 saxo with my mum .

Awsome cars saabs, brilliant mororway cruisers, and damn nice to look at, especially the new ones. As the advert says: "Some drivers like to be seen in a high performace car. Others prefer to drive one."

eh, still FWD

my dad test drove that and an audi A4 quattro, and he didn't like the understeer. His favourite was the e36 3-series ( a 5 year old car being better than 2 brand new ones!! :D )

I know it's still FWd but here don't think of getting a RWD car unless you have another for the winter..

and it handles better as an A4 he said it's got less understeer than the A4 and it's faster too. He didn't like the E46 3 Series though.

He's supposed to go test drive the new S40 this week.. well if they have T5's

Welcome. :)

if you know how to drive properly, RWD is actually better in the winter (just throw a couple of sandbags in the back and its much much better than any FWD car) In the FWD cars the front wheels have to steer and power the car, while in RWD the tasks are more evenly divided.

lol sandbags... it's gonna take you more than a few with our winters here.. you'll get stuck on ice or won't be able to go out during snofalls.

and you need to put proper winter tires on it. I hate those stupid ppl who just use all-seasons  all seasons are crap

dont forget where I live EDMONTON we have some crazy-ass winters here too. my car, even with its crappy wornout all seasons and no sandbags only got stuck once, when I ran it into a snowbank after missing a turn  this next winter it'll be even better, cuz im buying some good blizzak winter tires and loading some sandbags into it. My moms volvo V70 with winter tires on it has more trouble than my car does  (like not being able to get up hills  )

I live nowhere near Edmonton, but I've seen some crazy winters here too (although not lately).

First year I got here, I had never driven in the snow, and nobody bothered to tell me that I should get winter tires for my 84 trans-am  .
I frequently saw 80 on the speedo when I was only going about 30.... sideways.... through a corner  .
Only got stuck once though (in five inches of snow) for about five minutes and still made it to work.

Had an 87 bronco too, and one day I was snowed in, and a couple of buddies decided to order pizza and take it into town (about 3 to 4 miles or so one way).
They came back 3 hours later, and they had taken the farm fields because they were in better shape than the roads  .

Now I have a set of winter rims (Compomotive) and tires (Hakka's) for my STI.

Hey, thanks for the welcome!

We don't get mad winters where I live, we rarely get snow but when we do nobody is used to it. When it snowed a little in febuary I heard of 3 seperate MX-5s spinning, because the people didn't know how to drive in the snow with RWD, my dad in the 93 was fine. I didn't try driving in it, wish I did now!
