Last movie you saw?

Maybe Aston should just stick with Michael Bay and Adam Sandler movies from now on. :p

He lives in the UK City of Culture for 2017. I think it may have gone to his head.

You see, you went to see the 2nd movie with a very specific expectation which was not fulfilled at all, so naturally you were very disappointed.

And on a similar note...

American Hustle

I had very high expectations for this movie, and I am sorry to report they weren't met. But let's get the positives first:
- acting was top notch!
- Amy Adams is very, very hot! As usual.
- It's the 70s. Some references to the Nixon aftermath, Carter, the economy...I liked the period-specific, historically accurate vibe of the movie.
- Louis CK is in the movie with some very funny scenes.

So what was wrong with it?

I'm not sure why I'm spoilering this, since I won't tell you anything specific, but just to be safe...

The movie is in the same genre as Goodfellas and Casino. I love those movies, therefore I should have loved this one too! But something was missing. It was...mild. The plot never went all the way to 11. It was good, but it didn't do anything that Goodfellas and Casino hadn't done way better years ago. Without them as the yardstick, I'm sure this would have been a brilliant movie. Alas, it did not live up to the expectations.

If you want something that can compare to Goodfellas and Casino, go watch The Wolf of Wallstreet. It's Scorsese's best since Casino and ranks right up there with his best.

Just watched it and it goes up to 12 at some points. ;)

Lone Survivor.
Really not what what I expected and all the better for it.
Seeing Explosions in the Sky come up as the films composers was a pleasant surprise during the opening credits.
I won't dive into any story points, but I must say that it had some of the most impressive stunt work and practical effects I had seen in a while.

A very dark, very violent British Revenge spree movie. Very good. 8.5/10

That's as maybe but I can't abide Danny Dyer.

Mr Nobody

What an incredible film. Go and watch it now. I won't give it a 10, because I don't think its possible to be perfect. Definitely an existential crisis film.

9.7/10

American Hustle: Eh, I liked it, but I wanted to love it. As said, It's annoying when a good movie feels like it has an extra gear waiting but never bothers to shift into it.

7.5/10

A solid 8/10 with an excellent cast including not one but two Dames. Funny with some nice pathos and a great film to watch in female company without feeling short changed.

Weird. "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".

Did you just describe a Ben Stiller movie as "absolutely fantastic?"
