In some ways I agree with you but I also think that in some way it's a bit of harmless turn off your brain escapism."6 Underground", a Michael Bay... thing for Netflix.

How deep are you into Manson lore/US counterculture history? Tarantino assumes a shitload of prior knowledge as he builds a lot of suspense from the audience knowing that the main characters interact with a bunch of serial killers while they are completely oblivious about it.Yeah I didn't really get the appeal, the last 30m was more interesting than the whole rest of the movie.

What I don't understand most is why people were so shocked by the movie and it's depiction of violence. For me, it slotted right in between Taxi Driver and, say, Death Wish - the way violence is shown and the level of gore definitely is owing more to "tough guy vigilante" actioners than being even close to what can be seen in anything from war movies through Lars von Trier style arthose faire to "torture porn" horror films.
