Ownership Verified: Latest aquisition, E38 Sport

Ok, it's been 2 1/2 years with it, and all I've spent in repairs is about $200 for minor stuff here and there (a few bulbs, a rear window regulator, and a coolant level sensor). Still reliable as my daily driver. I've put the Alpina front air dam on it, and added a Sprint Booster throttle remapping chip that really wakes it up (goes along with the M60 intake manifold and 84mm throttle body I've added as well). The car has seen road trips to upstate NY and back and down to St Petersburgh, FL and back with zero hiccups. I"m at 175k miles right now...

Fantastic! Love it.

I do have to ask about the throttle remap though. Is it to eliminate lag, especially combined with the torkwe converter, or is it just some simple throttle tuning where it will just, let's say, do 60% throttle input when you're actually pressing 40%, making the car feel faster when it's actually just more... throttle? Over here, some people swear on Gaspedaltuning but it's mostly just a cash cow because... well, you could just press the accelerator harder.

technically it's just about pressing the throttle pedal harder, but it's really a major difference in responsiveness when you switch it off vs on one of it's 9 settings. Instead of mashing the throttle and waiting a bit every time you use it, it happens MUCH faster with less effort, making it feel like it has more power (even though it adds zero power). It's hard to describe but if you turn it off and just mash the throttle harder it still feels sluggish and not very responsive in comparison, like it's working in quicksand. So maybe it's also reducing lag that is built into the stock DBW setup.

After the February Fakeout (sunny and 77 degrees for a couple days) it went back to being cold and nasty here. It's back to being filthy and I need to wash it bad, but the rain makes it pointless.

Well, just about 3 years into ownership and it's still a completely reliable daily driver with now about 180k miles on it. I put the rear window regulator in it about 6 months ago, as it was making noise. Other than that, nothing new to report. It's been to upstate NY a couple more times, and this past weekend took it out to Summit Point, WV for the BMW Club Chapterfest. Toured the windy backroads of western MD/VA and WV for a few hours and it had no problems keeping up in the twisties with the smaller 2 and 3 series cars.
