SANTA MONICA, California ? Images and specifications of the 2009 Acura TL made their way onto the Web today, ahead of Acura's planned debut for next week. Acura had previously released only a front view and preliminary information for the all-new fourth-generation TL.

The 2009 TL will be offered in two versions: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This is the first time Honda's Super-Handling all-wheel drive will be available on the midsize sedan. The front-wheel-drive version gets a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter SOHC V6 engine, and the TL SH-AWD will use a 305-hp 3.7-liter SOHC V6. Both engines are mated to a sequential sportshift five-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The 2009 TL also gets a completely revamped interior when it goes on sale this fall.

The Acura TL is a particular delicacy that those outside the U.S. don't get to partake in.;)

Here are the other Acura vehicles we here in the U.S. get to choose from.

The mid-section's nice, but the front (in particular) & rear are hideous.

Awful design, the back looks odd, the front looks ridiculously. BMW are defiantly not scared, pity because I bet its not a bad car under that ugly body

Right when they offer AWD in an uprated V6, it becomes hideous. The interior is alright, the dash has too many buttons (this goes for most new Acuras), but the steering wheel actually looks pretty cool. It would be pretty competitive if it's priced close to what the current TL costs.
With the new Hyundai Genesis, a lot of cars within this segment are really going to have to work hard to stand out. Maybe the US Accord is just moving more upmarket, but this new TL looks like it will be less relevant than the previous TL was.

Hahaha, oh wow.

Oh hi there Honda Accord! I almost didn't recognize you under all that classy makeup, but you couldn't fool me! Isn't it funny how, when Infiniti redid its lineup as entirely distinct cars, and gave up just sneezing pixie dust on FWD Nissans and trying to pass them off as luxury cars, it worked? I wonder why Acura is still languishing in third place...

This thing is so hideously ugly it isn't even funny. Honestly, I don't know whether to cry or die laughing. The worst part of all this is that at some point of the design process, it actually got APPROVED by some Acura executive...

From the side it looks exactly like the new Mazda 6...if drawn by a Decepticon.

Dude, that thing is UGLY :?

Who the hell looked at that and said, "Wow!, we should totally put this car into production"

I kinda feel bad for the thousands of people who will buy one though :|

That rear-end desing is fantastic, its just strapped to the wrong kind of car.. On a supercar, those rear light would look really good..

As a whole though, hideous.

As ugly as a burnt thong

I could learn to like the rear. The problem with Japanese cars these days is their infatuation with all the bloody buttons. Say what you want about iDrive, but at least at night everything is navigable and searchable through the onscreen menus. I like the idea of configurable soft buttons so that design concepts can take over and still be functionable. Too bad every possible thing you'd ever need on that car has it's own separate button.

The front end though, completely ruins it for me. SH-AWD is technically brilliant, and the added HP boost is nice and all, but c'mon, 5 gears? Get with the program.

yeah there definitely going in the WRONG direction with there external appearance

That is offensively ugly!

Here it is compared with the old TL:
