To answer the questions about my last photo:
It was incredibly windy, and I got that view by hiking up to the top of a fairly large cliff.
Here's a shot featuring what I'm pretty sure is that same mountain:

omg so much has happened on lens flair while i was away!!!! Now i have to catch up viewing. In the mean time, I shall start sharing some photos of my 40+ day vacation... sigh so exhausted.
