In any circumstance, the motives are good. They show real people in real life doing real stuff realisticly and interestingly.

+1, and if im not wrong its 200mm prime which he is using?
 
yeah, it's prime 200, so no IS.... iso1600 and -1EV cranked up in postprocessing. That's why i chose BW (usually im not a fan of it), and also because the lighting really sucked in the room - ugly colours all around you.
 
Then I see the need for the high shutterspeed.
