Let's have a laugh

At least Bernie is willing to pay his fair share.

Ah, of course - 13% is "fair" for Bernie but 25% is too low for Trump. Sorry, I forgot about the double-standard in this part of the site.

Funny. But just a little context....

They have their primary home in Vermont and a home in DC (you know, where he works). His wife's family had a home in Maine which belonged to her parents and was never used, so that was sold to buy the "third vacation home".....Sanders net worth is somewhere around 500k.

They earn around 200k a year before deductions. The deductions they took to get that low tax rate are deducting state income taxes, mortgage interest etc. Pretty normal things.

The tax return of Trump's which showed he paid 25% I think works in his favor. I'm not one of those saying he isn't paying enough. Since we don't have the full return we can't really dive deeper into things, like exactly what he wrote off to lower his income.

The double-standard Trump supporters?

The difference between Bernie and Trump is that the former wants health coverage for every American. Trump is happy for 24 million to have no coverage.

I would *love* to see WTF can be written off to get to an overall rate of 13% - that's a tiny rate. Also, I don't know about you, but I don't get a free home through work and I can't afford a vacation home so...

On the Sanders return, virtually all of the $56,000 in itemized deductions comes from the traditional writedowns on Schedule A. But the total amount of deductions is a relatively large 27% of their adjusted gross income. The average amount of deductions for the typical taxpayer is $7,766, or 12% of AGI. The Sanders deductions do appear to be legit, however. The couple deducted $9,666 in state and local income taxes and another $14,843 in real-estate taxes, presumably on their residence in Burlington, Vt. They also claimed $22,946 in mortgage interest paid in 2014, along with charitable gifts of $8,350. While the amounts are larger than for most Americans, those types of deductions are typical for middle-income families that own a home.

Suffice it to say, Sanders is a pauper when it comes to Senators. I think he's in the bottom 20.

Personally, I would remove most benefits available to those elected to DC. Taxpayers don't need to pay for their benefits.

I want free Ferrari's for every American. And free mansions. And free space stations.

It's easy to want "free" stuff for other people when you're not picking up the bill.

And our "coverage" is so god awful right now, many young and healthy people would welcome not having it. I mean, I could personally cover every American myself, with no monthly premiums, just a 1 trillion dollar deductible. Sure, it's worthless, but hey, at least you're "covered".

Should Trump(insert alternative rich person) pay more than what the law requires? You have answered this before as no, so why should Sanders pay more than the law required? I never said the tax rate at any level is fair, but Sanders actively works to change the system to make it more fair.

Who said the house in DC is free? And why is it that you right wingers (i know, you are not a republican...) always get upset when a non right wingers makes money? Is that the only group that should be allowed to get ahead?

My solution for Trump and healthcare. Let people buy private insurance if they want to on an open marketplace. Create a government insurance that people can pay a percentage of their income if they want to...and give them all gold insurance cards with his signature on them.

On healthcare in the US, yes it is not good when compared to other countries. It has gotten much better though.

Dan Carlin just did a show about this, it is worth a listen.
