Though the 2013 Lexus GS sedan has already taken the Lexus brand in a new--and we think positive--design direction, the future beyond the GS is being previewed this week with the new LF-LC Concept, penned in the company's Calty design studio.

"The concept we're showing here in Detroit continues the Lexus design revolution started with the CT and GS," said Lexus group vice president and general manager Mark Templin.

So what is this new direction? As you can see from the images, the exterior is dynamic, with lots of glass and complex curved surfaces. The interior focuses on high tech contrasted with shapes and materials derived from organic sources. While the extensive use of glass isn't likely a production-intent element, the general themes, shapes, and details are likely to be found in the next round of product updates at Lexus.

The nose, particularly the grille, headlights, and bumper styling, are especially likely to find production use, as the 2013 GS already exhibits similar features. For less dramatically-styled cars, expect to see cues that reference the LF-LC's design, including mesh grilles, L-shaped daytime running lights, and vertical fog lamps.

Inside, the cockpit is clearly driver-focused, with scooped side panels and a curved console centering the attention on the behind-the-wheel seat. Touchscreen controls through a pair of 12.3-inch LCD panels enable easy driver input without distracting from the road--or at least that's the intent.

I think it's really nice, the front is a little busy, but it still looks good. I like this design much better than the LFA.

That new front end Lexus design philosophy sort of works here...where it's absolutely terrible looking on the new GS series

I like the shape, but the detailing is horrid...

looks like crome ... lots of silver shiny stuff = for yobbos and quite out dated on a modern car meant to appleal to younger audiences.

Yep, its just brushed aluminum trim, it only looks shiny because of the bright lights and camera, if shot under different lighting it would look much less garish.

Translation: no need to be upset. offensive chrome not found.
