Yeah, I also didn't belive it at first. And even when I painted a kind of "road" connecting the two squares it still seemed like one is darker then the other.

Yeah, you should see soe documentaries on Discovery Channel about eye-witnesses. It's surprising, once they did this experiment:

4 white guys at a busstation and 2 black persons.
The 4 white guys robbed a woman from her purse.
After the incident they talked to people who saw it, 8/10 said it were 2 black men who attacked her...
