Did the hosts have to get commercial driver licenses in order to drive those rigs on the open road?
 
They drove semi's with full trailers in a previous episode on open roads as well. Not sure if they actually just got a police escort (not shown) or got licensed.
 
Thanks for the feedback. Our country is just so litigious that I was wondering if they would let them do it without licensing.

Me either but I'm sure it was one of those. Too much liability without it. I'm guessing cops were involved and pretty much everything was staged including going over the double yellow line.
 
Its not actually that hard to get a Class A license in the United States. Just go take the written test and pass it and then pass the drivers test. We use semi's all the time in my industry (concert production) and I've had friends who had to get one ASAP and it only took a few days. Especially with a good coach, you can learn the necessary skills to pass in a few hours.

So I wouldn't be surprised if they had class A's for the first semi truck episode and that it would carry over to the logging truck episode too. I guess they might have to get a special endorsement, but its usually just an additional written test for that stuff.
 
You don't actually need a license to drive those huge trucks as long as it isn't for commercial purposes (IE: Actually delivering loads, not just televising scripted dangers). It's normal class D for non-commercial driving up to 26.000 pounds.

Edit: These are the US rules, to my knowledge most countries require some special training before they let you drive these things, even empty.

They claimed they were hauling around 100,000 pounds.
