Last Weekend I visited the Long Beach circuit for the first time. For those who know their motorsport, this location was used in Formula One during the 70's and today IRL use this fantastic circuit. I was very impressed by the location and the purpose of this thread is to give an in depth view around the circuit and start a discussion of US tracks that can host a formula one track today.
First off here is a map of the circuit currently used:
This was the old F1 circuit used:
I parked the car and started at East Shoreline drive walking along the beach curve. Found a nice hotel just before Shoreline.
You can see the concrete blocks stacked up in the parking lot until they are needed.
View of the parking that features the indy curve
Grand Stand in Shoreline drive, beautiful sunset
Before I continue to the track, on my right is the podium and tribute to past winners of Long Beach
Winning Drivers:
Andretti
Watson
Reutemann
Villeneuve
Piquet
Jones
Lauda
Zanardi
Montoya
Bourdais
and me...ahem
Moving along, I continued Shoreline, the famous Long Beach Aquarium on my right
Another look at the grand stands and the concrete blocks separating the road
The Hyatt hotel and park alongside the track, this is where the pit crews set up in front of (off camera)
Queen Mary can be seen in the background
Pine Ave, the first corner can be seen up ahead. Of course the famous pedestrian bridge is in the background
Yay Ferris Wheel! And 2 S-classes next to each other (only in LA)
Fence Blocks
Getting closer to turn 1
First Corner towards Aquarium Way
Aquarium Way
Turn 2
Aquarium of the Pacific on the left
Approaching Turn 3
Turn 4
Coming Back to West Shoreline Drive from turn 5
Pine Ave Curb
In Pine Ave, Convention Center on the right
Turn 8, East Seaside Way
East Seaside Way, I didn't want to show you the Indy way, was more interested in the old F1 circuit so off to Ocean
Continuing on Pine Ave, notice the increase in elevation
And on to Ocean Boulevard! Much more going on than the boring East Seaside.
And look the Long Beach Performance Art Center on Ocean
Back to Linden Ave, this is were the F1 cars would drop down to rejoin East Seaside
Well That is a lap of Long Beach, here are on board video of the track. Sorry didn't have a stand.
