Hey!

I'm currently not into much this week, so I searched around a bit and came across MAME. Its an EMU for arcade machines...

Has anybody ever tried it? Quite fun... Childhood dream, having unlimited coins for the machine ;-)

So far I've played Mortal Kombat 3, Rtype Leo and Capcom vs. Marvel...

Does anybody have advice on whats a good game?

And if you don't know what I'm talking about, visit www.mame.net
I also found sites where you can dl roms... on p2p you usually can only get DVD like archives. Won't post that here because of legal issues... pm me...

I used to play MAME in late nineties. I can recommend some immortal classics, like Root Beer Tapper, Spy Hunter and Marble Madness. I love those three, but I did have loads of others too. MAME is great, the ability to play all those childhood arcade games you never see these days.

I'll have to dig my MAME cd from somewhere I think it's back in my folks's house, tho... You won't mind throwing a link or two to my PM box would you, Buba?

Yeah, I've used MAME on and off for years (even have a version for my cell  ). I was only ever interested in the games I played as a kid that are now hard to find:

Bubble Bobble
Gaplus
Ironman Stewart's Super Off-Road w/ Track Pack
Pac-Man Plus
PuckMan (JP)
Puzzle Bobble 1, 2, 3 & 4 (AKA Bust-A-Move in the US)
Raiden
Tron
Twin Eagle - Revenge Joe's Brother

I haven't played in a while, and I still like to play these games in the arcade if I find them. If anyone can find me a copy of Raiden DX though, I'll be your friend for life...

Raiden DX eh? I have a Raiden 2 on my computer, a top-down scrolling shoot-em-up. The same game?

I think so, does it have the homing purple laser? The last time I saw that game in the arcades was at Pier 39 in San Francisco. Ah, good times. :D

Yep, that's the one. Although I prefer the "red" gun, the pulse laser that shoots stuff all over the place. I can just cruise around and dodge lethal stuff and everything just gets destroyed around me.

I've played Raiden2 as well when I was a kid... I remember my friend used to choose the blue guy and I used the purple one... we stayed up late so many nights to play it... but I don't think we ever beat the game though... not sure

Now you could... ;-)

But some of the games are really oldschool... And the newer 3d Beat em ups are not emulated correctly... Well, I guess I'm having fun for another day...

Buba

i suggest

beatem ups and scrolling shooters:
Final Fight
Varth
blazing star
metal slug 1 2 3 4 X

fighting games
Last Blade 1-2
King Of Fighters 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004

TF
metal slug is the best shooter ever

^how can I forget about metal-slug... but I don't remember playing that on arcade... it was on playstation for me

Yeah, I was playing Metal slug 3 for an hour... FUN! Does anybody have/know where to get metal slug 4? A pm would be great ;-)
I only have King of fighters 2000... Mame supports only up to 2002...

I'm gonna try Last Blade..

you lucky man... I have my finals coming up at the end of this month... so the only time I play games is LFS with you guys and maybe an hour or so practice before the race

Things have moved on during last five years, I must say. Back then I could barely run Root Beer Tapper, Paperboy and such, now I can play one of my all-time favourites, "Chase HQ". For a 1988 game, it's great. Interestingly from the huge options list you can enable Direct3D which, in turn, enables you to use Fraps and capture video from the games. This is gonna be fun... Next up, Metal Slug.

Hey Buba, you wouldn't happen to know a optimization guide from the top of your head, could you? Tried running "Cruisin' USA" but hardly managed 5fps.

You could try the www.mame.net site... Dunno

Cruisin World was fine for me, but somehow I don't know how to configure the analog controls properly...

I also tried SanFrancisco Rush, loved it on N64... But I had like 0.3 fps :)
