From http://www.japanesecarfans.com

Mazda of North America announced in May the MX-Crossport Concept (debut at Detroit Motor Show in January) will go into production and be called the CX-7. This new nomenclature designation for Mazda represents crossover/SUV type vehicle(s) in the model lineup just as MX(5) refers to piston sports car, RX8 refers to rotary sports cars and MAZDA(#) refers to their core passenger cars.

The CX-7 will be almost identical in appearance to the MX-Crossport Concept but the interior will be much more sedate. Engines include 2.3 liter turbo with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive, 3.0 liter and 3.5 liter V6 engines. The CX-7 will be exclusively built in Hiroshima, Japan. Expect production version debut at Detroit 2006.

Ooo I sense a turf war - you know this is Overheat's hood! :p

That disguise makes it look a bit hideous, fortunately it looks like it's stayed very true to the concept so underneath all that it's a good looker - though it does seem to have a big front overhang

I like the fact that they aren't using tiny itty bity wheels, that's what most automakers do when they have a concept w/huge 20" wheels. Those look like solid 18 inchers :)

I'd prefer the new Nissan Murano :D It wont have tape all over the bodywork!

They've stayed very true the concept:

(I do still fear it's going to have a massive front overhang though)

It seems asthough concepts end up being the final product eh...we see this more and more in the motoring industry.
Whats with 4X4's and those huge front grills like the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7

that copy should read "...will have a 2.0L three rotar engine..."

As much as Mazda is near and dear to me. (Yes, BMW & Mazda) I have to say the world can do without another SUV. Even one that looks nice.... although I should point out that I see very little "dna" making this car a mazda.

You could see that styling on any companies new SUV... like the Kubang and such. :( Its the worst part of consolidation: banality.
