Best news I've had in weeks. Truly, it would not be the as special without you there.

We hope to book the ferries in the next few days. Sadly Portsmouth-St Malo even one way is compleat raep so we will probably do Dover-Calais both ways and put up with a longer drive. The passport for the fucking dog is going to cost over ?100 but it will still be cheaper than putting the annoying little cunt into kennels for the same period.

Not bringing the dog. Ferries now booked. Arrive France around lunchtime Friday Aug 4th, ETA whatever campsite in the Verdun Gorge area late afternoon Saturday.

Brits and Germans meeting in Verdun. I have heard that one before...

Are we going to exchange chocolates and cigarettes and have an impromptu game of sportsball?

EDIT: Boss just signed off the application for leave. Suppose I should have got that before ?booking the Channel crossing.

Well both Verdun and Verdon are only 150km apart, in case someone screws up.

So far it looks like Ice, D-Fence, lip, MWF and HWF3.0.

Anyone else confirmed or with serious intentions to get involved?

Nicjasno?
Dins?
Timbits?
leviathan?
Davetouch?
Maytum?
Adamar?
DaHitch?
Random Belgians?
Even more random Finns?
The Norwegian/Baltic conspiracy?
Secretive Aussie?
Septics?
Anyone else?

I'm offended that you ignored my statement from way back in February that I'm in... :shakefist:

That said, I might take my bike with me (estates FTW) to do some cycling in the evenings - anybody else?

I just got a good bicycle and am training up my stamina and hoping to lose some fat, but I don't see myself hauling it for 2 weeks through europe.

Awesome!

Please don't be offended and remember I am a high functioning alky with the symptoms of early on-set Heimlich manoeuvres (or is that Alzherimers?).

You planning to bring the E46 Touring?

I have every right to be offended, I'm offended by everything since I live today and I am a special snowflake! :p

Yes, I'm planning to bring the touring since it doesn't get much use currently - not counting the 200 km tour to the US car season opening on May 1st I drove just 200 km in the last month...

Well, there are rentals as well.

Arrive at chosen campsite Sat Aug 5th

Sun Aug 6th - Loop 1 of awesome local roads TBC

Mon Aug 7th - Loop 2 of awesome local roads TBC

Tues Aug 8th - Loop 3 of awesome local roads TBC

Wed Aug 9th - Day 1 of Riviera to Ringmeet beginning with Route Napoleon, taking in some other good roads possibly finishing somewhere in the Alsace.

Thu Aug 10th - Day 2 of Riviera to Ringmeet featuring interesting roads in the morning and a highway thrash after lunch.
I think that proposed timetable still stands, right (works perfectly fine for me, I just want to confirm)? That means the Viaduc de Millau wouldn't be on our route since it's some 350 km away from the Verdon gorge.

I think I'll do the detour the the Viaduc de Millau before arriving around Verdon which means my timetable would look like that:

Wed Aug 2nd - drive from Hamburg to southwestern Germany (maybe Freiburg)

Thu Aug 3rd - drive from southwestern Germany to Millau

Fri Aug 4th - touring the Viaduct and some of the surrounding areas

Sat Aug 5th - drive from Millau to Verdon to meet you guys (and gals)

Rest as proposed above

Yeah our plan is to travel via Millau on the way down. I guess we could look at routes to take it in on the way north.

Well, Verdon to Alsace via Millau is around 1100 km (I really don't want to do that on French motorways, even on German motorways it would be too much for me), even Verdon to Lyon via Millau is 750 km, and then you can't really enjoy the Viaduct IMO since you already travelled 350 km. If you stay the night around Lyon the drive to the N?rburgring is 650 km as well.

I rather propose going from Verdon to Dijon via Grenoble on Wednesday (app. 520 km) and the next day to the 'ring (app. 460 km), IMO that's much more doable and enjoyable.

If you travel via Millau on the way down we can meet there as well since as I stated above I plan on staying a day there, I'm flexible regarding the drive to Verdon.
