Here's my newest DD, a Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo R from 2003. To my knowledge this is one of four in Finland.

For those unfamiliar with the Airtrek, it's basically a JDM-Outlander, and the Turbo R-part of the name means that it has a de-tuned version of the engine from the Lancer Evo VII. It has 240hp and 343Nm combined with a viscuous 4WD. The gearbox is a five speed auto with +/- buttons on the steering wheel.

There's a turbo down there.

The radio is from Japan, so it doesn't support any other Finnish radio frequency except 88.60 which is an old people's channel down here in the south. There's also a CD player with a Maroon 5 CD stuck in it. I have a new head unit bought and ready but someone has tampered with the car's ISO connectors so that now there aren't any. I have to find someone to do some wiring for me... I've already removed all sorts of TV-receiver cabling from the inner roof and A-pillars :D

The car was imported from Japan last August, so it hasn't seen any road salt before this winter. The underside seems good as new based on what I've managed to crawl under the car, but I'll get it on a lift soon to see more.

The engine, gearbox and differential oils have already been changed along with the spark plugs and fuel filter. The timing belt has only been driven 34 000km but being 8-years-old it's three years over due so I'll have it changed tomorrow. I'll play around with my new camera later on and get a proof picture then.

Edit: Fixed pictures.

The dash is pretty cool!

Not a fan of how the car looks, but the specs seem very interesting. Nice!

Yeah, the dash is really cool! As is the rest of the car.

A Mitsubishi version of the Subaru Forester, I guess. :)

edit: Forester XT, I should say.

Back when Mitsubishi still built cool cars. Gratz on that one, instantly in the top 5 of the coolest cars of FG for me personally!

It's really sad to think how nice cars Mitsubishi made just a decade or so ago, and then they totally just gave up. Well, it's their loss, used Mitsus are still great cars!

I don't drive, I fly.
De-tuned, huh?
That means it must be easy to bring it back to EVO levels of power.

:p

Congrats!

I know you were kidding, but from what I've read the biggest differences to Evo engine are:

-8,5:1 compression ratio vs Evo's 8,8:1
-smaller turbo
-top mount intercooler

I was only half-kidding. :p

Yeah, no power modifications for now :D I like the fact that it works and the gearbox is intact.

The timing and balancer belts have been changed now. It was a huge hassle that I won't go into more, but in the end everything seems to be a-ok. And oh boy was it fun to drive to work today with the smaller roads in sheer ice

I've got a work related trip next Wednesday during which it would be fun to have more channels in the radio than just one. So that's next on the agenda.

Japanese head unit gone, European head unit on  I went for a Pioneer AVH-290BT because it was cheap being last year's model. The Bluetooth calls and audio stream work, there's a USB-plug in my glove box now and above all else, the radio works with more channels than one.

Thanks :) It has caused some hassle with parts and labour being such an exotic car but in the end that's just why it's my kind of machine

I cleaned the head lights yesterday. A second treatment would be useful because so much yellow gunk came off, but that'll have to wait until later.

Thanks! The paintwork is still in quite a sorry state, but it'll do on a DD.

In the morning it looked like this:

And after three hours of work:

Oh yeah, this has been sold.

Sh*t hit the fan at home which led me to be quite fed up with the running costs of the Airtrek and so I changed to a far more economic 2014 Clio with a turbo and three cylinders :p
