Vauxhall's Australian-built Monaro V8-engined coupe is to get even more powerful: from March, the VXR model will pack 404bhp and 391lb ft of pulling power from a new 6.0-litre V8, the same engine as used in the latest C6-series Corvette. With a top speed of 180mph, it will be the fastest Vauxhall ever sold, finally overtaking the legendary Lotus Carlton (177mph). Acceleration 0-60mph will come up in around five seconds, though final figures haven't yet been formally ratified. The VXR will also receive revised suspension and bigger brakes, and minor styling tweaks: a pair of 'nostril' vents on the bonnet, quad exhaust tailpipes, new 10-spoke, 19-inch alloys and VXR-branded brake callipers. Prices are expected to start from around ?37,000

Must...buy...Vauxhall

For some reason, that looks a lot better than our GTO. With just new wheels and changes to the bumper, it actually looks quite a bit better.

Our GTO just looks so plain and ordinary, it doesn't even look like a sports car, it looks like a big, round blob of a car. You'll be getting the same engine we already have in our '05 GTO, same engine from the C6 Corvette. I actually think the engine is more suited for the GTO/Monaro than the Corvette. :)

It looks amazing. I love it.

OK, next step they don't touch the engine at all but lose the rear seats, carpeting and interior trim, replace all steel body panels with plastic, change all glass with Lexan (except windscreen). From big, fat, fast GT to real race car :p

I agre.. the new Vauxall/Holden Monaro looks impresive. But i remember that is another Monaro much more powerful than this one (440 bhp). I think Vauxall has more attentions to detail with the Monaro VXR than Pontiac with his GTO

If someone makes me to choose between the Vauxall and the Pontiac, i'll choose the Vauxall with my eyes closed

How do the yanks manage to fuck it up so bad and the Brits make it look so damned easy? Loving that Vauxhall :)

What do the Brits have to do with it, the car is made in Oz!

The cars are itentical; the Pontiac 5.7 LS1 GTO is the same as the Holden/Vauxhall version except the noses and wheels are slightly different and has a few more horses.

The 2005 versions use the new 400HP Corvette 6.0 LS2 engine and feature the optional Ram Air hoods.

If the VXR Monaro is popular and lasts long enough in the UK we'll see the larger engine and vents too.

Love the car

Matthew

I know the car's designed in Oz, but the English Vauxhall version, the Oz Holden versiona and the Yank Pontiac version are all different, cosmetically at least.

They are both made in Adelaide (where I live ;)) and they are the same car with very minor differences.

Here in Oz we have a 4 door version that the Monaro was based on. Its a commodore and is probably one of the best sold cars in Oz. Its basically the same. Holden were a bit stupid to take a large 4 door car, chop off 2 doors and call it "more sporty" without making it smaller :(

It would be so cool if they had that engine in a smaller car...oh well, I guess they would have done market research first and people like me are in the minority.

Don't like that concept (orange one). Look at the exhaust...?
The rearlights are bad, they should get rid of the vents, no "chrome" grill...etc it's just better stock.
