Vauxhall's Australian-built Monaro V8-engined coupe is to get even more powerful: from March, the VXR model will pack 404bhp and 391lb ft of pulling power from a new 6.0-litre V8, the same engine as used in the latest C6-series Corvette. With a top speed of 180mph, it will be the fastest Vauxhall ever sold, finally overtaking the legendary Lotus Carlton (177mph). Acceleration 0-60mph will come up in around five seconds, though final figures haven't yet been formally ratified. The VXR will also receive revised suspension and bigger brakes, and minor styling tweaks: a pair of 'nostril' vents on the bonnet, quad exhaust tailpipes, new 10-spoke, 19-inch alloys and VXR-branded brake callipers. Prices are expected to start from around ?37,000
