Sorry i've been gone for the past 2 months, but my new apartment doesn't have internet yet...just popping in to say hi since i'm home with my parents for the weekend...

A little about what's been going on. I moved into my new apartment back on Jan. 2, started my job on Jan 10. I was brought in to be a designer (graphics), but i guess things have some what shifted so i'm a 3d animator for products for the company. It's kinda funny because some of the products that i work on doesn't actually exist yet. They give me technical specs or a wooden model that represents what it'll look like and i turn it into 3d so they can use it upcoming "coming soon" brochures...it's fun but stressful because of the deadlines.

About my internet, i was supposed to get cable back 2 weeks into January, but when they started installing it in a couple of the apartments in my area they discovered the cables in 1/2 the apartments couldn't handle the bandwidth, so they have to upgrade all the cables....so it's being worked on. Getting DSL is out of the option. i'm too far from a station to make it fast. DSL price = $30 for 386 kbits, Cable price = $30 for 3 MBits...I can wait for cable.

And about me buying a Mini, it's out of the question. Took one for a test drive, loved how it drove...BUT...interiers is too "plastically", and the engine bay has a great design, but, and this is a HUGE but, if anything goes wrong with the car, you literally need to take the engine and/or supercharger out to be able to get to anything...would be $$$ to fix, oh and alot of plastic bits in the engine bay...great design, but i don't want to deal with it...so back to car shopping for me. I took an S2000 out last weekend and loved it, so maybe we'll see...

So how is everyone else doing?

And you say I'm lazy, Ren? :p

(Yes, I read it.)

Good to know you aren't dead, Raider007. :p

What software are you using for the 3D modeling?

I love my avatar as well :p
and Alias Maya. I told them i knew how to use Lightwave, but they prefered to go with Maya instead for future growth and scalability. Learning curve was a little hard at first, but i've gotten the hang of stuff finally.

The absence of your avatar has taken its toll on me!

same same helllooo :)

welcome back Raider... there's just been a swamp of new members so I didn't notice that you were gone  ... unless you were a postwhore like Daniel

Hi! I don't know if you'll recognise me or not though, I think I was still lurking when you stopped posting.
For the 3D work, do you use some kinda 3D pen to edit stuff? I just saw one on Mystbusters and it looked so cool! :D

Cool. I really need to learn Maya myself as well. I know 3D Studio Max pretty well, but I want to get into 3D modeling (for animation or video games most likely) and will probably need to know Maya.

What sort of educational background do you have? I'm finishing off a Bachelors of Fine Arts right now, but I'm trying to decide if I should do a 2 year diploma at an arts\tech school in 3D modeling\animation.

I like Maya - really easy to pick up and so very versatile overall. Although 3DS is still prolly the leader.
