So what's Honda going to do with the next-generation Accord? Here's a clue.

The Sport 4 is a taster for the new-era styling and a stronger focus on performance and sporty handling. It has Honda's new four-wheel drive system - as in the latest Legacy and the Acura RL - that can split torque 70:30 to the front and rear axles and 30:70, or up to 100%, between left and right wheels.

It is 3.4 inches shorter than the current Accord overall, yet has a wheelbase 1.6 inches longer, thanks to very short front and rear overhangs.

Emphasising the car's sporting pretensions, the cabin of the show car is fitted with four individual bucket seats. The headrests of the two front seats have digital read-outs of the car's torque-splits and other data so that back-seat drivers can follow the precise progress.

The engine is just a four-cylinder 2.0-litre, though, in combination with a five-speed sequential-shift auto gearbox. Comfort is not forgotten, either, with a full-length glass 'moonroof' and four sunblinds.
