IVX-II is basically a Legacy saloon kitted out with all of Subaru's latest and upcoming driver aids.
One new feature is improved frontal recognition sensors called Active Driving Assist, including two stereo cameras and a radar unit. The new cameras can detect multiple objects, road traffic lines, road conditions, can calculate the distance between the car and an object, plus the relative speed with which another car is approaching.
Also on the Subaru stand is a sported-up Legacy Blitzen Touring estate, based on the 2.0 GT spec-B, with a redesigned front grille, bumpers, spoiler and cabin, with unique high-gloss finish to the bumper under-guard, roof rails and side sills, and 18-inch aluminium wheels.
The first production model to feature this so-called Turbo Parallel Hybrid (TPH) system will be the Legacy Hybrid, due 2007, and Subaru claims that in this car, it will produce around 255bhp yet return over 38mpg. However, the B5-TPH suggests that a hybrid new-generation Impreza wagon isn't too far behind.
