I used to use one of those big folding tables and it directly as a mouse pad as it was nice and slippery, especially once buffed smooth by my mouse:

However now I'm using one of these and as it's being buffed smooth, it's being hard to move my mouse:

I'm using a piece of paper temporarily, but I think it's finally time for a proper mousepad after all these years.

Ideally I'd like to get it off Newegg as it's the least amount of hassle for me: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=202&name=Mouse-Pads-Accessories

Three popular ones on there are these:

But I have no idea if those are the best on there or not. Any suggestions?

I have a Logitech G5 (laser) and I think I want a semi-slippery kind, not the felt/rubber kind. I like a light mouse that's easy to move, but that won't act like an air hockey table (i.e. keep sliding forever).

I like to have one with a gel pad because of the height of my desk and the way I rest my wrist, but that doesn't sound like what you are going for.

I have a friend who uses an XTRAC Ripper XL and he likes it.

Yeah, two of the ones I linked are XTRAC's (one is XL, one is normal).

One of these upside down.

I have the XT and a G5.

I love it, best 20 bucks I've spent in a long time.

Looks too thick and possibly too small. I'm using an 11" x 8.5" piece of paper right now and I'm probably using 9" x 10" of it, if not the whole sheet. With paper it's not the end of the world if I run off, but with a big tall mousepad...

Yeah, I want thin. I run really low mouse sensitivity and have a huge desktop. I have to pick up my mouse 1-2 times to make it across both my monitors (and I like it that way). A gelpad would get in the way.

The other thing is that I don't have my palm on the mouse. I know many people who do it that way, but I use only my finger tips (palm 1-2 inches away) and actually do most of my mouse moving with my wrist directly on the table. If it were up higher, it'd fuck up my moving.

Turns out these seem to be cloth based. I want something slick.

EDIT: Maybe I'll just deal with a piece of paper for now. It's alright and my dad's friend has a smaller version of the laminate tables (I used to use a 10 footer or something) that I can have for my new place.

I moved from soft mouse pads towards the one I currently have right now which has a nice hard surface. I love it way more because it doesn't slow down the mouse or attract globs of dirt and dust like a cloth one does.

The only problem is that it came with my Dell XPS system a few years ago. So I'm unsure about where you could get one.

It seems that the "Razer" brand pads are the hard surface pads, so you can try looking at some of those. Here are some example ones

This is an Xtrac one made of plastic (relatively cheap compared to the others): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826991029

These are made of glass: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826995006 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826995007

Hopefully that helps you find your way around this maze of pads.

You game a lot so I'd recommend a gaming one. I got a thin large Revoltec, which is basically a very thin reliefed sheet of ABS with a ruberrised under side to stay put on the table, but the surface has worn out in a few months. I just ordered a Ratpadz XT (when it gets here depends on how good the shipping from usa is). I can get used to it being thick, but after using a good pad new (the mouse literally glides on it, you could blow on it and it would move on its own, now that the surface has worn it sticks like on a normal mouse pad), I can't use anything but a proper gaming pad. And they say that the XT model, which is made out of HDPE, won't wear out or they give you your money back.

Well, here is a shot of it with my G5 on it for scale.

Just curious: Why do you like the sensitivity so low? Seems like it would be a pain to have to pick your mouse up 1-2 times just to make it across both monitors. I have dual monitors too and it takes only a few inches of mouse movement to make it all the way across. It's also nice in games because you don't lose any movement in the heat of the action because you don't have to pick the mouse up and moving it back to the center. I guess if you are used to low sensitivity then it would take a while to become accurate with a higher setting though.

The other thing is that I don't have my palm on the mouse. I know many people who do it that way, but I use only my finger tips (palm 1-2 inches away) and actually do most of my mouse moving with my wrist directly on the table. If it were up higher, it'd fuck up my moving.

I also used to rest my wrist directly on the table, but I started to get a pressure sore when I'd stay up all night playing BF2 back in the day, so I switched to a gel pad for comfort :D I still keep my palm away from the mouse like you do though.

What mouse you got again?

Dude, laser mouse. Resolution of 800dpi+. Increase the sensitivity. You won't lose anything.

tbh I think Suedscheife is right. Simple is better. Metal is simple AND awesome.

I use a $0.99 Fry's Electronics cloth mousepad and it works better than anything I've ever used. :dunno:

I use the Razer Exactmat with the same G5 as Viper's and I only use a 1/10 of the mat but on the highest setting on the mouse. A large mat isn't necessary unless you set it low.
