Ownership Verified: MX-5? Too mainstream.

Mmmmm k-series
Supposed to be a good engine, right up until the head gasket goes at about 60,000 miles!

Still if its been well maintained it should be alright, biggest issue is ensuring the cooling system is in tip top condition. If it has managed to get almost 100,000 miles I'd imagine its either already had work done on it or has been looked after anyway.
Also at ?1000 you can't really go wrong, I can't imagine it'd die within 2 years

I considered buying one of these a while ago. They are so much cheaper than MX-5s here it's not funny. Have fun with it :D

How is the suspension doing?

Edit: Haha. now I noticed the licence plate. I'd imagine that car is Not Work Safe :p

Nice!

It sorta looks like a mini 360 Modena Spider.

:hmm: Fiero MG-F with a bodykit?

:p

The suspension still seems good. There are a few squeaks and rattles but from what I've read most of those are down to design flaws. The suspension is definitely set up more for handling than comfort but it's not an uncomfortable car to ride in. My back is safe as long as I don't hit any real big potholes. Twisty backroads are where this car shines. It corners flat and there is tons of grip, so much so that I've found I don't have to lift off the throttle for many 50-60mph curves.

I never realized that about the number plate but you're right! Hopefully "Not Work Safe" doesn't mean it will be Britishly reliable and cause my boss to become very angry with me when it won't start in the morning.

1,000 GBP? Well done, looks nice and fresh. Keep the service schedule up to date is my one tip.

Could go on a run down to the South Coast, perhaps go to. ...

Oh and. ...

BBR (01280 702389) does a cheap tweak to improve mid-range
performance

of both engines (1.8i and 1.8 vvc)

Watch out for. ...
Possibility of camshaft sprocket coming adrift on VVC. According to MG Rover the reason for this is a typing error in the workshop manual which gives the wrong torque setting for the camshaft retaining bolt. The factory and MG specialists know the correct setting, but independents may go by the manual and get it wrong.

Oh no, they accidentally installed the steering wheel on the wrong side!

(Have you gotten in on the left side of a car yet by accident?)

Weight is about 2900 pounds with around 145 horsepower.

Not gonna say anything :whistle::p

Not bad for 1000 pounds though. Look forward to hearing about how it goes!

SWEET! That looks like a blast.

At first I was like  but then I saw the price.

Good little buy by the sound of it, and if you only need it for 2 years at that price you could virtually give it away when you go. If you ever fancy a trip to the sunny South Coast let me know.

It's been a while, but I believe the roof has to come off to access the engine.

"You could go for day out in the country together." :jeremy:

Nice find indeed; definitely something good to have for a couple of years :)

As a thought; I never caught where you are based in Ukania? :)

Yep, Suffolk county to be more precise. I just moved to the town of Bury St Edmunds a couple of weeks ago and working out of RAF Mildenhall.

Two years of living in Okinawa with the same RHD/left side of road made me feel right at home here. Although I did go to the wrong side of the car a few times when I was back in the US in July. :|

Bumping for an update after a fairly major servicing. I had new tyres, brake pads, rear brake rotors, front wheel bearings, and a tie rod end all replaced. I had it all done because I wanted to have all of that taken care of before winter. It's a good thing I did because it turns out one of the rear brake calipers was siezed up. Oops! The brakes now work a damn bit better with all four doing their jobs. It also handles and rides taughter and smoother which makes me happy.

I also experienced my first bit of roadster camaraderie when I stopped by a charity car wash on the way home and got into a conversation with the owner of a Honda S2000. We talked about everything from handling to good driving roads to an idiot with a DB9 Volante who never drives it. That's something you don't get with just a normal car.

Bury St Edmunds is a nice town / area. No mountains there though. My Brother lives near by - Glemsford to be precise.

It seems the MG has become all jealous of its new sibling because it has refused to start ever since I took the Land Rover out to play in the mud. The battery cranks strongly and I can hear the fuel pump running but then all I get are a few coughs and sputters as I crank the engine. During my holiday break next week I'm going to change the spark plugs and fuel filter and hopefully that fixes it.

In the mean time I've had to resort to a Land Rover for some reliability. I'm getting quite used to having the Series as my temporary daily driver.
