Finally I am the owner of a 1965 Ford Anglia 105e and a tidy one too!
I had had my eye on another 105e, however when it came to have the car inspected - it failed, and miserably. Rust and leaks everywhere.
So it was onwards and upwards and I returned to searching for another tidy Anglia.
I found this particular 105e on a local advertising website and it almost seemed too good to be true - a one owner from new (48 years) , garage stored, 75000 original miles example!! After a month of negotiating and organising a time to collect the car (9 hour drive away) we were on a plane up the North Island of New Zealand to collect the car.
Prior to seeing the car for the first time I had only seen photos online so I was unsure of what to expect - the car however turned out to be better than pictures could ever have depicted!
The owner's daughter (the car had been in her garage), told us the history of the car - it was assembled in NZ in 1965 and purchased by this particular couple. The car was used daily for about 20 years until being replaced with a more modern car in the 1980's. At that point the car has spent the next 25 years (or so) in a garage with very little use. The car had been treated to a respray in the original colour in this time too. The car was completely original and was being sold with all original brochures, servicing documents - everything!!
To top it off, the car had only travelled 75000 miles since new.
Because the car had had so little use in so long (60 miles in the last 3 years!!!) we were anxious for the long 9 hour drive ahead. The car however, didnt miss a beat and ran like a legend! It astounded me how much of a head turner the car is too - admired by so many passers by and we were never short of a wave or a smile.
Trip home.
So now I have the car back in its birth city (the Anglia was manufactured at the Ford plant about 20 minutes from where I live) I plan to slowly tidy the car up whilst maintaining its originality.
I will upload a proof of ownership photo when I get a chance!
