Ownership Verified: My 1990 Mitsubishi Sapporo

Alarm works!

Also, the EA97 Galant turbine wheels arrived. They're in very good condition with virtually no marks and with enough tread left on the 195/60R15 Nokian NRHi:s. With shipping, 43 euro apiece.

16" or 17" and it wouldve been bang on.. suits nicely

I'm attempting to maintain the look that those would've come with the car :p 16":s would've been nice, but obv more expensive - and since the Sapporo is all about ride comfort, I'm hesitant to risk it by getting bigger wheels or dropping the car.

Steering improved with wider rubber, it's less numb now.

Going from 15s to 17s on my Merc didn't kill comfort by that much. The only time you really feel the lower sidewall, is when you hit short, sharp bumps like a ridge in the road. A lot of work has gone into making these lower sidewalls more comfortable over the past decade or so, since more and more cars are getting these low sidewall tyres mounted from factory.

A little bit of detail action. Look at those grimy exhausts on the above pic.

Polished them on the weekend and got a nice shine from underneath the layers of dirt.

The EGR hose had been blocked, probably to try to fix the bucking the car does on light throttle a bit above 2000rpm. Unblocked it and attached the hose - and the bucking got worse. Reblocked it; hopefully it doesn't fail on emissions at inspection.

This pellet was what the hose was blocked with :p Now it has a screw in there.

Finally fixed the door panel with epoxy glue, this time it holds.

The rear spoiler looks like ass and the paint comes off if you wipe it. Need to look into it; lip spoiler needs repainting too. Maybe black?

The F is filthy as I don't have time to jamesmay it.

Also, it looks like I'm getting rid of the cockwheels on Sunday evening. Promised them for a buyer who drives via my town then; got calls yesterday and today from a dude who would've taken them off my hands for a premium, if I'd sold them to him - but I agreed to sell them to another buyer earlier, and plan to keep my word. :p I just hope the arranged buyer appears, or I'm out of a deal.

yes, rear spoiler needs new paint and yes the front lip would look good in black (st170 style :) )

I agree on the front spoiler, but would black rear spoiler work as well?

Great job with the exhaust!

I think a black (matte black?) rear spoiler would look a bit too heavy. Think Brezhnev eyebrows - and the base colour for the spoiler material is grey; the front spoiler is black/dark grey underneath.

Since the car has a nose-down stance and it's as close to a R30/R31 Skyline I'll get anytime soon, emphasizing the front spoiler with a black colour could work.

You're probably right. I didn't realize the rear spoiler is actually so long, so it wouldn't be a black stripe, it would look like half of the trunk is painted black.

Now you just need to drop it and get some 80s JDM goodness to perfect the R30/R31 look! And some "Intercooler 4 Valve DOHC RS-Turbo" stickers.

Actually, having the trunklid resprayed wouldn't be such a bad idea, since the paint on it is flat, earlier spoiler fixes by previous owners have resulted in overspray and there's a dent.

I considered Skyline-style two-tone paint for a second, but it would only look like the bottom half would've had extensive rust repairs and then shoddily repainted with whatever was available. Anyway, the stickers would probably say "SIRIUS ECI MULTI" :p

So kinda like this

That looks very era appropriate for the car. And it doesn't look half bad. Somehow reminds me of this

Fuel consumption for a spirited 450km drive through the country seems to have been 8,5l/100km. Pretty satisfied with that, since I frequently sped up, braked, sped up etc. instead of keeping to a set 90km/h speed like in wintertime (which gave me 7,8l/100km).

And the cockwheels are sold, on an ABC parking lot for 140 euro. They went into a white, ratty/rattly V40, so the Mitsu center caps probably don't matter.

...And it looks like I'm in line for a garage space at an old telephone company storage building. Dude who manages the spaces also said he'd seen my Sapporo around town and was happy to see it still doing daily service.

Lol inspection fail, front right tie rod end is due for replacement. Otherwise fine, emissions, brakes, suspension and all.

Like I already said on IRC, shame that it didn't pass, but good that everything else is okay. First inspection with a new old car is always the most exciting one!
