Ownership Verified: My 1990 Mitsubishi Sapporo

Got a quote for a new windshield; 380 euro installed. It's not *that bad* for such a hard-to-come-by item, but I could try to get one cheaper still. Galant windshields do not fit as the glasshouses are different.

It's split along the bottom; it probably doesn't cause anything more than a mention at inspection but I'd still like a new one.

or if the inspector has a bad day, a fail in inspection..

Have you tried simply treating this as a run-of-the-mill broken windshield and call Carglass? Doing so halved the cost of the Kadett's windshield replacement (to 130 Euros).

It's not in my field of vision, unless it's really important to look at one's wipers. :p

Edit: there's no Carglass near me or my hometown.

Any other large "we replace your windshield cheap"-chain? Classic car/specialty dealers will charge you twice what a normal shop will charge for spares without even having a guilty conscience...

well i think that the quote he got wasnt from a speciality dealer... i could be wrong, but..

It's just a normal shop. Pilkington doesn't carry Sapporo windshields anymore, so the shop would have to have one made for it.

Shall I try getting a quote in Germany? If its around 100 bucks that alone would pay half the fuel to get to the ringmeet :p

Why do I get a Vietnam Challenge flashback? "Here, I bought you a present. It's a Sapporo windshield, hope you like it." Cue hilarity when I try to get it back to Finland in one piece :)

Anyway, I'm calling the old owner one of these days, I remember him saying he knew where to get a windshield for 150 euro or so. Hopefully this will not involve a BX windshield and duct tape (only finns will get this reference).

Car is booked for body shop a month from now, to get all the rust sandblasted to hell.

Cock wheels might be replaced by Galant E55 turbine-blade originals.

This might work. Someone needs to do a bit photoshopping.

You're keeping those waffle-wheels for the winter purposes?

Yep, they have a certain amount of corrosion and surface damage, so they're good as winter wheels. Alternatively, I could swap the Michelin winter tires on the cock wheels and have the waffles refurbished at some point. The turbine blades should be relatively flawless and straight - and unlike the cock wheels, the rubber on them hasn't hardened due to age.

The innuendo is breathtaking here :p

Pshopping by Blayde; those don't actually look bad.

Edit: A pic by MXM; when you see it...

Some photos of yesterday's polishing effort. The roof is still matte as hell, and the bonnet could be better; so buffing is needed.

The dents on the rubber rocker trim show where the spots of rust are underneath; someone's tried to get through to them without removing the trim.
