Ownership Verified: My 44 -year old antique ['70 Cortina "GT"]

Met one white mk1 Escort and the owner in Hernesaari today. After seeing exhuast manifold that has those extra chambers I walked back to mr.M and asked does he know you ;)

Same one?

I've driven 2200 km's with the Cortina without air filters, a Friend clocked up nearly 40 000 km's in a Sierra and an Escort with no filters. Never any issues and all the cars have been driven on gravel and snow for extended periods of time. :) Not bothered at all.

Guess neither of those had Mass Air Flor sensors :p

It's not the same manifold, but it's also one made by me :p

Also, I do know the owner very well, we built the Escort together less than 2 years ago:

Some pictures public snapped from the #gear.fi trackday today. The car exceeded expectations by staying together for more than 10 laps :p

Looking at the pictures, I guess I haven't really realized how far the car has come from the bog standard wreck with no engine which it was only a bit more than a year ago  Wonder what it will look like a year from now..

It's always good to compare then-and-now and before-and-after shots :)

Some seriously cool going right there!

As I said at Ahvenisto, I think think you provided the best soundtrack of the trackday. Great sound, seemed like fun to drive what I could gather from the passenger seat. Though something to hold on would help the next time. :D

Perfectly awesome, nice to be a passenger again. I'm keeping a close eye on your progress!

I hope it's just a fender bender. In this case it needs the reverse general mayhem color scheme. Instead of black car with red left fender, a red car with black right fender :p

Yeah, overcooked an icy forest stage corner a bit.. Should perhaps have invested more than 30? on winter tires for the car. Anyways, everything went excellently up until that point, and the car felt extremely nice to control, very predictable and easy to toss around, overall it performed very well for probably several hundred sideways corners.

The damages of the crash could have been *lot* worse, apparent damages so far include:

? Windscreen cracked
? Passenger side front fender is extremely bent
? Passenger side sill is pushed in quite a lot
? Bottom of the A-pillar has been pushed down and the pillar is slightly bent at the very bottom.
? Something is loose in the front suspension (probably unrelated to the crash, as it was apparent before)

Overall, I'm not nearly as pissed off as I probably should be. I would have had to remove the front fenders anyway at some point, as there is (was :p) a bit of rust on the passenger side one, and i would like to mount them with bolts rather than the original spot welds. This just gives me a reason and motivation to tear apart the front of the car and build it up better than it was. I drove it home (around 150 km), and apart from the loose front suspension component, it feels very much like it always has. The car will certainly be fixed, although with parts getting rarer and rarer, the cost will probably be a bit more than I would like. :/

I'll start work on the car on Tuesday and post pictures then.

This doesn't sound good... Perkele.
