My affordable dream car

dont diss drifting bc the japanese proved that it is faster to get around a corner sideways that griping, just it turned into its own sport where angle is more important than speed and it really isnt easy to initiate the drift before the turn and to keep sliding all the way through the corner with only 155 hp and pretty stock suspension.

snap oversteer is where you are applying throttle mid turn and the back gives out without any warning. i dont care how good of a driver you are, snap oversteer can happen to you in a mr2 bc of its light weight and mid engine. the only reason it would happen is if you were pushing really hard in the corners.

btw im not dissing mr2's, i was even about to buy a aw11. if i wouldve gotten one i sure as hell wouldve kept the 1.6 in there bc imo its not meant to be a powerful car, its made to be a street legal go cart with a roof.

but if you want more power, people get loads of hp outta the ae86 4ag which is just the na's brother. im pretty sure 400 hp outta one of those is possible. plus come on, who doesnt want to rev over 10,000 rpm?

me...

dude... I have been building racing 4ages since 1984. Raced a GT3 Corolla from 1985 to 1988. Then ran a Rally (Grp N) Corolla in europe for a few races before moving over to the Shelby Charger / Talbot Horizon.
I have been racing since the late 1970s in all forms of racing including trying my hand at slideways crap. It was funny. Yes it takes skill to do that. But going faster is not one of those skills. There are alot of things out of japland that are quite funny, one of them being drifting... notice how they are now using V8 american cars to drift at these drifting events? Funny how the crowds started showing up in the beginning, but now they can barely get people to show up for free.
Not dissing it, just throwing out some reality.

There is a 400hp 20v MR2 down under that is running some pretty fast quarters. Top 5 of the MR2 Quarter Mile List. But those are with turbos.
reving to 10,000 rpm is fun. But if you need to do that while trying to move a 2000+ pound car then you wont be going anywhere fast, especially if you don't have a close ratio gear box :)
Snap over steer is blamed for a lot of things. The main being that the driver got in way over his head, and being a man had to blame it on something other than him self. I have been racing cars for years as I explained above. Both on and off the street. I have spun an MR2 just once. That was at Talledega, in which I was on cold tires and entered a corner too fast for my then cold slicks. The car snapped and spun. But only because I made a truely bad mistake. After I heated up the tires I was able to kill that corner.
Most people that complain of snap over steer are young drivers. They either wrecked their car playing and doing stupid stuff, like full power in a turn on worn tires in the rain or snow, or read about it on the internet, or heard it from another guy who heard ablout it from his uncle who new a buddy in the navy who had a friend who had an Mr2 that crashed into a cow pasture in the snow.

So you honestly don't know much about the MR2. The MK1 MR2 is not a go-cart. It is quite heavy. 2200+ pounds for the 1984-1986 models and 2600+ for the later 1987-1989 cars. The SCs are even heavier. The prefered chassis for racing is the 1984-1986. The best engine for racing is the 1984-1986 as it is lighter. The later engines use heavier duty components which actually slow the engine. Funny how the internet crowd (club4ag for instance) throw the version 1 engines away and want the version 2. For big HP like with using a turbo the v.2 and v.3 4ages are pretty good. The v.5 blacktop 20v is even better with a turbo.
So to move that 2200+ pounds in weight requires torque. something the 4a just was not designed for. The main complaint about the AW11 when it was first released in the states in 1985 was it;s lack of power. Great reving engine, but just did not have the whoomp of the 2.2L chrysler engines of the day. hell, I spend so $15,000 on my first TRD 4age for my race car that exceeded 195hp... but I spent $11,000 on a 1987 Shelby Charger GLHS that had 185hp and 200+ pounds feet of torque. And would actually run faster laps stock on Firebird raceway road course than my GT3 Corolla. It was pretty sad. One reason I left the Toyota camp back then.

why the hell are you acting like this? not once did i diss you or auto-x or even your beloved aw11.5 or whatever, i was just trying to understand the reasoning behind it is all. i never said i knew all, im just a car guy that has loved rwd imports(not just for drifting) my whole life and im trying to learn more.

the last time i checked, there was a decent crowd at the local drift competitions, but not at auto-x(ive only been to 1)

plus 9500 rpm in a 2900 lb honda, and 9500 rpm in a 2950 lb rx8

That's child abuse right there; I'm sure he could make a small fortune off the lawsuits. ;)

Heh, well those can be had for 20-30 k, so about as much as a mini cooper or mino cooper s. (not in concorse condition, but that is fine with me)

I don't think that is too far of a stretch with others choosing gen 5 golfs and viper gts coupes.

If I were to go lower than that though, It would be some of the cars already mentioned, like the e34 m5 or the mabee a e28 m5.

i would go for a subaru WRX. looks okay (untill the new one came out) and its performance is good. I would like to have a golf tho :( but they dont sell the mark 5 in canada

Waiting to see that...

seats are clean, door panels are on. basically everything is done except for the audio equipment (wont stop me from taking pics tomorrow) and currently the gauge cluster surround panel, which is proving to be insanely difficult to replace (you have to screw in components from the inside while it's mounted, half impossible to do)

but i'm confident i can get it resolved tomorrow morning. so you can expect photos then ;)

My affordable dream car is this:

Or this:
2000AUDI-S4.JPEG

My next car will be either one. The GTI offers many things the S4 just can't, including being brand spankin' new, a better warranty than a CPO vehicle, less expensive maintenance, a more reliable engine, and being MUCH lighter (to the tune of 700 lbs/317 kg...yikes!), whereas the S4 offers more luxury, Quattro IV, a more powerful and sophisticated engine, Audi quality, and better performance. Plus, I love the look of the 8D chassis.

Anxiously looking forward to it!

You, sir, have a great taste in cars (like I didn't know it already ;)).
I had an A4 8D Avant, and if I decide to buy petrol, the used alternative is a B5 RS4.

I'd go with the Audi, Woo, it's much better than the Golf. Although I must say I am quite impessed with VW, I used to have one and recently drove a diesel Polo at work (pool car) and found it not that bad, well, if you thrash it and then for a diesel it gives really bad MPG, I get about 20MPG out of it  But, a GTI should be great. But, personally, I'd go for the Audi out of the two. I used to drive an Audi 80 for a while and it was a excellent car, I loved it.

No need to scan the article.

^Yeah, it's an awesome little thing. I drove one at a dealer, and you can get a year old second hand one for around AU$20,000. I'd get a GTI, but the waiting list here is over a year now.

I was considering getting an HSV, but petrol is getting a bit silly and I live close to work now, so I don't need such a huge car.
