my beaters au naturel ('90s Japanese Performance Red Edition)

Tech plans are way less pressing than tidying up the bodywork, though. The Sunny's bubbling, and would probably need a respray from the side swage line downwards + some rectifying around the windshield.
The Mazda's a lot better, but as I changed the tyres I prodded at the sole bubble it has, in the driver's side rear arch, and I'm going to have to get it fixed.
Going to have to smarten up the looks anyway, since there's no shine left in the paint right now. The Sunny's gleaming compared to it. AutoGlym'll probably do the trick.

So, I spent yesterday and today washing and waxing the Mazda. It had been a while since I had done anything to it, since the weather here's been dodgy as usual and I didn't want to spend money and get it looking terrible in five minutes. I can't wash it at home, since there's no water outlet near the parking spot, so I have to go to a local carwash.

So, here's how it looked after the wash:

The only rust I got. The antenna spot is bubbling, but it doesn't show rust yet.

The hood was matte, it had tree sap and scratches from brushing the snow and ice off, etc etc.

So, after hours and hours and half a bottle of Korrek TFX, here we are.

I probably should've gotten a bottle of some paint reviver/cleaner before getting to work with the wax, but it turned out just fine.
The AutoGlym I would've needed would've been 40 euros, and I wasn't that eager to get some shine.

Apparently the TFX should keep the gleaming lustre there for some time.

I also did the bumpers and wheels and random black bits with black polish.

wow how you do that D:

I didn't buff it by machine, just hand-polished it a couple of times.
First time around I did it in the open garage you can see in the background, so the wax didn't burn on the hot surface.

I love the Eighties Red, it's very satisfying since you get such visible results, all colours aren't as nice in that respect. It's also usually terribly faded to start with, so it's easy make it better.

Obviously I need better wax then, hours of hand buffing and I can't get a damn thing.....

So the Mazda's gone and replaced by a 323F. I think I might make a separate thread for it, but it does fit under this headline.
I might just take better photos later on, but here we go as it stands.

1.6 16 valve, 94k kms, completely rust-free and straight except for a ding in the front panel where the emblem is. Full service history with MOT printouts and rust-proofing documents.
The interior is otherwise in great condition, but the driver's seat has some wear which I might have to sort out later. I'm thinking of getting a new front panel as well, there are a load of red 323F:s at scrapyards anyway.

It also has the original Philips radio-cassette, which I love. :mrgeen:

May I ask what you paid for it?

I'm going to wax the F just the same way as the old 323, probably tomorrow.

^ That's my favourite shape of any 323 right there, and it has pop-up headlights!
Those were sold as a 323 Astina here. Plenty still running around too. A friend of mine used to have a white one, now she has a Kia Rio. The 323 was better.

The Sunny Coup? is undergoing bodywork restoration. This is how it looks today:

This is being done in the same bodyshop that did the Mazda's front panel.

You NEED to tell me how much the respray cost you once you get it done :)

The original quote was 500 euro, but it's going to cost a bit more since there was a bit more welding needed than it seemed at first. Looks like the guy is doing a thorough job, I thought the passenger side was alright. Of course, he's going through dents and dings as well as rusted bits.

And some soft music to get into the mood...

Cue "I went to the internet and found this!"

How much for the painting & paint alone? You can do the prep stuff yourself.;)

The 500 euro was weld+prep+paint, but I'll report what the weldweldweldsomemore+prep+paint will cost :) I'm not performing anything on the car for some reasons: 1. I'd do a shoddy job 2. It's my brother's 3. I don't even like driving the car

But yeah, it's threadworthy since it's the car I drove for a while after I got my licence.
