Good day to you ladies and gentleman.

I've been a quiet reader for a long time, and now i feel it's time to participate in this forum, because it's pretty fantastic.

I'm 22-year-old student of 'german literature', 'culturell science' and 'speaking science' (sorry, i don't really know about the english terms for my subjects).

I live and study in germany and i am, besides my major hobbys literature and strange music, a huge petrolhead and a top-gear-viewer for a few years now.

Since this a car-related forum i think a good way to introduce myself is to introduce my cars.

My first love was an Opel Astra GSi, a pretty pubertal boy-racer kind of a thing.

Modell: Astra F-CC GSI 8V
Engine: C20NE 85 kw/115 ps, Raid HP Air Cleaner
Exhaust Sytem: MSD spare valve, Remus Sport-Exhaust 2x92x78
Suspension: H&R Springs 35/35
Wheels & Tires: SMC Wheels Typ H 7,5x17 et35, Hankook Ventus Sport 205/40r17
and some other stuff, not worth mentioning..

In 2005, rust- and image-problems made me decide to get rid of it and get a 1-year-old Smart Roadster instead.

It has 60 kW (82 hp), Sportpackage, Safety Plus-Package, Soundpackage, Additional Water-Temperature- and Pressure-Gauges, Rain/Lightsensor, Spikeline Wheels, el. Windows, Clima-Controll et cetera..

At first i planned to trick it out with chiptuning, a new gearbox, lighter wheels, new suspension components, and a more race-potential look, a bit like this..

..but decided to sell the car in the upcoming spring, because i grew a big interest in youngtimers during the last few months. So i'm planning to go a reasonable way and get myself a mid-eightys BMW e30 320i or 325i as a youngtimer for beginners.

sorry, i thought youngtimer would be a common english term, but it's a false friend..

a youngtimer is basically a car which is between 20 and 30 years old, a young classic car.

Hey you learn something new everyday!

How have you found the performance of the SMART? You plan on getting it chipped...not that fast ehh?? I hear they handle pretty good though.

it depends on where it is driven. sure, it's not fast in a straight line, i would say pretty similar to my former astra, perhaps a bit slower, because of hugh grant.

but around corners, it can keep up with much bigger things.

i wanted to get it chipped for the autobahn, which i basically have to use everyday.

Great car!

Are E30s really considered youngtimers already?

yes, the first e30's were built in 1982... so ever car that is pre-facelift (1987) can be considered as a youngtimer.

I started off with an Astra as well (only a 1.6 though). Plans for getting an E30 sound nice - keep us updated on that!

Love the Astra!

Dunno about the Smart though. They've always reminded me of... oh crap, what's the name of that car from the early 90's that kinda looked like that? Hmm.

Nice Smart, the Brabus one is pretty cool. Gordon Murray is a big fan of the Roadsters and owned one I believe.
