My Lada 2107 Racecar Project

I see drifting is also populatr in Hungary, in Poland we also had few classics drifting in national champs, but now there are just Nissans ( many with rb26 or ls1 ) and Bmw's. Nice to see people still want to put there heart into those, my grandfather had 2107 in early 90's, and i had Fiat 125 for a moment :)
Some pics of Fiat 125 with 2000dohc twin carb engine ( if you dont mind of course, its almost the twin brother of a 2107, as they share the same basics with Italian Fiat 124/125 ).

Thanks for that its great having a reference No to take to the parts supplier. When you mention lada you always get the reply "haven't seen one of those for years"-which is automatically followed up by the classic - my Aunt, Art teacher or neighbours dog used to drive one of those.
I have just thought of something which may or may not affect you twin cam--the oil pump drive-these came in two sizes in the 131 engine ( well at least in NZ)
gear-1005.jpg

I originally had the short one in my engine and it only engaged the top 4mm of the drive the longer(sometimes refered to as the Lancia or Late 131 drive goes right to the bottom of the splines) This is such a major issue - with catastrophic possible results-that some local racers have lengthened the shorter drives as seen in the second pic. So check the splines on your oil pump to see how much the gear drive is acting on.

I was wondering if you would have any info on front shocks -over here we didn't even get the factory lada ones but a no name brand from Australia painted Koni yellow but unfortunately that is where the similarity ends. Bilsteins are unavailable and Konis are almost impossible to get I hear that one guy is running Toyota hilux ones but was wondering if you might have any better suggestions
cheers Evan

Front shocks are a difficult question... :S Rears are easy, they can be replaced by a lot of other brands. Dont know anything about the fronts :(

But you can buy bilstein from europe! Im sure they can ship it.

yeah it seems front shocks are the great lada mystery ! I have just got a extra pair of front shock mounting plates from a wrecker and I think the best way to go is modify them and access some fiat 124 spider shocks since they are still referenced in most suppliers manuals

Hey dude, just found out that the some of the Mitsubishi L300-s has the "same" front shock. Look around in a local scrapyard, cos I dont know witch year is the good one.

I think you have solved the mystery

Yep that should be it  I think it is absolutely plug & play! :burnrubber:

replacement shocks

Hi Mancs, yesterday I scored a pair of nearly new L300 Monroe Gas shocks from a local wrecker. Tube diameter 15mm thicker than the puny originals (Ultima brand) Difference was instaneously noticeable- turn in so much quicker and a lot flatter during tight cornering. But no more jarring than originals. I have noticed that there is a rear swaybar available - I assume that you drifters wouldn't be using them but I was wondering if you know any one that has fitted one and any comments they had re the benefits over no sway bar
cheers Evan

Rear sway bar IS needed for drfiting :) I have one but home made, and not to good... Will do sthing about it next yer. Zola has Fiat Argenta rear swaybar with the "dogbones" as well. Its really, really helpfull and noticeable! What swaybar are you looking at? Original russian type (witch is shit..) or from another car?

Good to hear that the shocks are working! ;)

rear swaybar

rear swaybar

I have seen the pics of people using the Argenta setup -unfortunately the late ones with the rear sway were never imported into NZ. The other one that I have seen
rear-sway-3-1033.jpg

this was on an Estonian website and unfortunately the web translator didn't really help explain the supporting text. Is this the original Russian one that is no good? Either way I was going to make a locally available one fit. I have a MK4 cortina one that might work and have heard that a Nissan S12 rear maybe a posibility. I am thinking that 16mm would be about the right rod diameter and would be making more solid trailing arms to attach to

Yeah thats the original russian :( ITs waay to weak. So its a waist of money.

If you got some solution for the swaybar project, let me know :) Im running fiat 125 front swaybar in the rer, but its not mounted solidly enough, Il try to make it more stiffer, and if it doesnt work, than I have to look after something else...

Cheers

sway bar

sway bar

I was wondering about the stiffness of the Russian one. The way it is mounted looks like it would flex a lot at the joints. I am going to try and replicate the Argenta set up with the bar attached to the lower trailing arms (Dog bones). I will make new trailing arms out of thicker walled material. The Cortina sway bar that I have that I can hopefully adapt for the set up is 16mm I was wondering what diameter Zola's Argenta one is?

Just a little teaser of the new engine. I already bought a manifold for the carbs, but they arent the one I need... But anyways, shot a few shots:

Yeah thats the golf in the back.. :( She needs to wake up soon as well now...

Looks really nice, have you got any idea how much power it's pumping out?

Is that a Mk2 Golf? Would look hot with some German-look ;)

It has german look :p But its sleeping atm :) Well its 130 hp stock, and its almost stock, only 40dellorto, and 60mm exhaust. So maybe 140 hp? dunno. We'l see :)

BTW gldfshbob, forgot to measure the rollbar... Will do next time!

I was wokring home, and there is so much spare time when rendering... So I shot a few of the parts that need to get in the car. Carbon parts arrived, they are going in the dash, making a new support for the new tachometer, shift light, and switches. Gonna look smooth ;)

The stuff:

Handbrake:

Crappy carbon vinyl on the tachometer (but its compact, and has all the gauges I need):

And the real biz' ;) :

New steering wheel, same as the old but its suede (<3 ), and not flocked:

http://img142.imageshack.**/img142/part6qv5.jpg/1/w800.png

And the engine of course. Lot to do till the first practise.. :)

New parts are always so nice. A couple questions though. Where did you get that tachometer? And how does that hydraulic handbrake work? Do you have a disc/caliper mounted in front of the rear axle, or does it actuate the rear brakes?

The gauge is some made in china shit.. But it works well, tested it with a proper temp gauge, and its almost (+-2C?) perfect.

The handbrake is simple, its inserted in the rear brake line, its a plus hydraulic cylinder, and it operates the rear brakes. Easy :D
