I haven't really had any issues with the lip scraping. Although, I'm used to low cars so Its force of habit for me to go up curbs and ramps sideways. I'm still holding off on adding an STi Lip or lowering the car for now to make sure I don't scrape it.
 
That was a perennial problem with my 2008 WRX. The front bumper kept clipping the pavement when going down a downramp. Would scrape the sidewalk.

When my mentioned carry on baggage I mean the ones allowed by the airlines in the passenger compartment.
