Yeah, and by now I would argue also a bit of “in too deep” - can’t make the change anymore now, too many cars with the proprietary connector on the road. At least they’re offering those adapters a bit more now.
Seems their timing of entering European markets and deciding on using type2 (J1772 equivalent with 3 phase) standard and later CCS with introduction of the model 3 in 2019 was sort of just late enough to save us from that particular headache… very happy about that!

Yes, 'too late to change now' is a major factor between having a whole user ecosystem built around that proprietary US plug standard, back when J1772 was just another plug type next to ChadEMO, and CCS fast charging tech didn't even exist at the time Tesla created their standard.
In way folks in Europe are lucky being late Tesla adopters due to the forced standardization of charger plug standards.
