Ownership Verified: My Summer Car - a 1993 Ford Sierra 2.0 DOHC Saphir

That is a nice replacement for the MX-5. From the pics, it looks almost nicjasno-level clean! :D

I was hoping for a potential Finnmeet victim car, but this is in a far too good shape to be sacrificed like that. At least for a few years. :D

Congrats, have lots of fun with it!

Thanks to you two. I am gonna try to nicjasno it as much as possible. I already have a couple of ideas. Hopefully, everything will work out how I imagine it in my head.
And Dan, I am trying to keep it in a very respectable shape for much, much longer than just some few years :p

Here are some recent photos from yesterday:

(And yes, especially on the last pic you can see that the car does infact need a good polish. I will try to do it this weekend ...)

Very nice example of a car that's almost never seen here in the U.S. except in Merkur guise.
I'm really happy for you that your found the one you wanted!
The story about the guy's back hurting makes it sound like the car was looking for its rightful owner!

Thank you, SL!

Today I got my DIN ISO adapters for the Kienzle MT1016 I ordered on tuesday.

The radio fits quite easily, though, being the stoopid idiot I am, I left my single slot din radio adapter metal thingy (however you wanna call it) to slot and hold the radio into place in the Mazda. God damn it. So I probably need to order a new one, used or new, whereever I might get one. Buuut I do like the original Ford radio more to be honest... it just completes the car a tad more than the Kienzle does, I think. I kinda like driving around in a proper grandpa car with an original 90s stereo. I probably get one of these Yatour bluetooth adapters a friend of mine got in his 944. Works absolutely flawlessly and you get to keep the original radio - I just need bluetooth, do not use aux jack anyway.

Now compare this to the Ford radio ... I think this looks better than the original Ford radio:

I can recommend Roidmi Xiaomi 3S FM transmitter. I got recommended it when I searched a way to keep both the original stereo on W210 and my wife happy as she only wants to stream music. The quality is exactly the same as a strong radio channel, absolutely no loss in quality you can hear in an old original sterero system. The only annoyance is that it has led-lit USB ports that will stand out in your case when the cigarette lighter is in plain sight.

Good, clean looking car!

Top stuff, I fully approve.

Interesting that for you guys 'Saphir' was a trim level, over here Sapphire was the name given to the Sierra with a boot (saloon), so we could never have a Sapphire hatch.

Thanks Alex!

Yeah Andeh, i find this to be weird aswell when I found it out.

Just seen two videos on this, this does look good so far. But how about frequences? Don't you always have to search for free ones?

Only if you are on a long journey and the frequency you've set it up on comes reserved suddenly. On normal use you just setup it once and be done with it.

Did some quick photos with my mobile phone of the three "major" rust spot the car has at its body. All of them are at the fenders. Maybe tomorrow I will have to get a look underneath the car in a workshop.

Also, why is that my cars are always dirty? I do was them thoroughly, just for the dirt to stick on it after the next few kilometers again. I need something to un-stick mah dirt!

Sounds like you need to experiment with waxes, I haven't looked into it much myself but they are designed to help. Not using aggressive cleaning products helps to stop it being stripped off too.

Lovely!

Don't forget this 25 minute long german advertising video!

Found my Sierra's younger, front wheel-driven and possibly slightly retarded cousin. Linky! Dang. Colour is spot on, it's a Schrägheck, has got the rare (?) three spoke steering wheel aswell and I do believe the kilometerage. All that plastic for 999 sweet Euros. I want it badly! If only I had space for this, I'd call instantly.

(pics gone on mobile.de now, car was a '93 Nordic Metallic Grün 1.8 Escort Mk5)

It is yeah. And on the pictures, I can only spot one little rust spot; underneath the fuel filler cap.

That's probably the nicest non-Cosworth Mk5 in existence.

It still sucks.

At least it's sucki-ness is well preserved. :p

By the way, is this how Ford hoarding habit started?
