Continuing the story. On wednesday, two days after having had a look underneath the car, I was at work when I got a message of my car being hit by a mailman reversing into it.
Luckily I could leave work and go directly there - sadly everyone was already gone, so I could only talk to my neighbour. The DHL driver was already filling out a form for accidents by himself when my neighbour arrived, and by suggestion of my neighbour, he also called the police. Apparently the police came with one officer and one intern (lol), to show her how an accident is reported, which is something that isn't required as there was no harm done to humans. I was very, very lucky that the police officer came with his intern BECAUSE that fucker of a DHL driver did actually quit his job right after the accident. Like, two hours after the incident. That's what the DHL insurance company (DHL sort of insures itself up to a certain monetary damage level) told us. Lulz. Without police report, I would have NO EVIDENCE of the DHL driver actually backing up into the car and I would have been left with the damage.
Did I say backing up? Well, actually, the police officer decided he was just turning and manouvering instead of purely backing up - which resulted in him just getting a verbal warning instead of a 100 eur fee. Uhm... wtf. Guess manouvering doesn't include backing up then? Ok. He probably just wanted to be kind as he got an intern there him. The fuck...
Anyway, so what's wrong with it? Doesn't look like a lot of damage, right?
Well, to try and find out how much it really is, I took it to my mechanic, as he is an expert in this...
...turns out, quite a lot of damage was done, even though it looks relatively intact.
See that metal plate on the DHL truck? Well that pushed much futher in that you would expect.
Front left tyre, bumper, fender, grille, radiator and even the airbox broke. Wait, didn't I found out like two days ago, that my radiator was leaking at the left side? What a lucky concidence.
Sadly I don't have much following pictures, from both the damage and the repairs done to it.
The problem that I had during the fight for money with the insurance company is that this is an old car, not "worth anything", but the damage was estimated at pretty much what my expert would value my car at (roughly 3k). To get the full sum out of it, I did a small legal trick in selling the car... I just happend to have bought it back now in a repaired state. Who cares, it's rightfully my money because that's what the damage was estimated as, and just because it's old doesn't mean I should go home with a couple of hundred euros and leave the car dying.
Things that are fixed now:
- brake lines
- rear muffler
- rust was welded
- complete rust protection (the underbody of the car is now completely black, looks like new compared to the old pictures above :lol
- new tyres all around ("new"all season tyres from 2015 -.- so much for them being new ... couldn't be arsed to get tyres for the 15's yet, as I'm unsure about selling or not)
- radiator was fixed, new one coming (has to be specially made, as there are no new ones available anymore (for real) and I'm not sourcing a used one, no)
- new bumper + paint
- belt was done
Things that couuuuuuuuuld? shouuuuuuuuuuuuld? be done:
- be broke and get awesome wheels? BBS's? Ronal Teddy bear? OZ? Ronal Turbo?
- new suspension
- find a new fucking muffler, even though I just replaced it, because it looks like a diesel and sounds horrible (I should get one in that 80s-90s chav tuning style - like this!)
- Cosworth Recaro interior, at least the front seats (full interior for sale here, god damn it!)
- so much little things that could be improved ...
- a fucking Kaltlaufregeler. Currently paying 300 euros in taxed instead of like 120-150 per year!
- drive it to Finland so that Timi can turbocharge it and I can put it into a snow ditch
I'm still missing a pipe for the airbox but ah who cares. Gotta lose that 2 hp at hot days I guess.
Fuck. I would and could sell this but not sure if I should do it. For the money that now went into the car, I'm not gonna sell it for a small price, nope. Too much of a good car for that. Not gonna go to a drift kiddie, just gonna drift it to death by myself then ...
And if I keep it, it needs to be in a top notch condition. As much as I would like it, I cannot do beatering. I just can't.
