Motorbikes seem to be getting pretty popular around here. In Blind_Io's thread about his new bike said I'd show off mine when I got some pics with decent background. So right after that I washed and waxed her up and set off for a local park.

A little history for those who don't know about it. What you see is a 1980 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim. I got this bike about a year ago from my uncle and it had sat in his garage unused for three years. Needless to say it wasn't running when I got it. It also needed a new front tire, brake pads, and fork seals. Finally almost a year and many problems later (many with the bike and some just random other stuff happening) I got it up and running. It's an absolute blast to ride!

Very patriotic (well, except for the Japanese bike in the foreground! :p )

I think it looks cool in this pic. Dual megaphones FTW!

You may have noticed I didn't show any pics of the bike's right hand side. Why?

Argh! Those darn side covers are $70 on eBay. My solution? I'm going to make one out of sheet metal. I've never done any metalwork but it seems making the part would be pretty straightforward. Don't worry, I'll keep you all updated with pretty pics of my hopefully equally pretty progress. I'm also considering painting the tank. I'd keep the same maroon color but add a silver part that goes up the middle and droops down the sides. Any thoughts/suggestions about that? I repainted the tank badges and I think they came out great.
